Can we have a beer thread? I fucking love having a couple of these after a long day's work. I'm sick of IPA's but am digging lagers lately. Can anyone reccomend a fantastic lager?

Not lager related but I noticed Duvel in the US where I'm at is very expensive Anywhere from 16-17+ bucks for a 4 pack. >Can any Czech bros weigh in on this one, are they considered good?
Why are only Czech able to weigh in? Are they they world's experts of beer comparisons? It''s probably the most traveled place in Eastern Europe, and is nearly 90% expats in the last 10 years. You won't hear Czech spoken in public even if you try.

>They’re the only Pilsner at the local grocery and I was thinking of getting some.
It's a pilsner? Do you like pilsners? I do. If so, you will find nothing offensive about it. Most American big brand beers are bottom filtered pilsner style beers, aka pale lagers, a Bavarian innovation. At the time Urquell, and the brands that came after in Czech's Bohemian past started their pale lager, going bottom vs top, like the Bavarians, this really light (and kind of watery) type of brew began.
Incidentally, this is also the time of Bavarian emigration to the Americas, which is why Anheiser, Busch, and even the great Mexican beers are in this same style.

Will you like Urquell specifically? Telll me if you think imported or improperly stored beef is delicious all of the time! Beer is sometimes skunky if not right, so buying a fragile beer from halfway around the world? Ehh, your mileage will vary. I think most people who drink this beer are reliving their fun in Prague, since its bee so hot to go to since the Velvet Revolution and their departure from communism. It's a little charmer of a foodie town, with disney storybook intact historical buildings that weren't wrecked by the Nazis.

going to get some king of beers today, I think it's underated, bud is a really easy drinking lager. I also pop some klonopin in it and it makes for a fizzy brain cocktail. Be careful with mixing benzos and alchohol though, I have blacked out and injured myself a few times lol

Drinking lager right now, all from Urban Chestnut. It's a American-German brewery. I recommend German anons to check out their stuff. Drinking their Zwickel now but I have some of their lemon radler too and their #6 lager. Going to the brewery pretty soon for my bday they have a growler that keeps beer cold for up to 3 days at a time so picking up one or two of them & a bunch of other stuff. They are one of my favorite local breweries & that's saying a lot because my city has a shot ton more than most.

You can't get most (more likely none at all) American beers in Germany and the people won't buy it, because it would be 3 times the price of similar domestic beers. Only interesting American beers in general are the light beers, because we don't have that style here.

if the ABV of a beer is 6% does that mean that 6% of the stuff in the can/bottle is alcohol, so for instance 20ml of alcohol in a 333 ml bottle, or is it more complex than that

If you're ever in Iceland and you like IPAs, try this one
I've tried a lot of double IPAs but all of them were basically a normal IPA with more alcohol content or a little more hops. But this thing had the most brutal and in your face aroma, smell and taste of hops I've ever experiences, it was incredible. Felt more like drinking liquid flowers than beer.

>It tends to be more bitter than I like but mostly because it's trendy.
At some point in history there weren't american grown hops, and that limited the supply or else increased the price.
When it became available, people were able to brew it, drink it more, and develop a taste for it quite a bit easier.
That said, you like what you like and I recall that IPAs were meant for long voyages (to India) to the formula was quite heavy on them, and the alcohol percent too, right?
>>14461379
>t everyone's been jumping on in recent years and it's kind of devaluing the whole thing
They're going where the market is. Big heavy high percent belgium beers, and world winners were the craze in the 90s. I just don't find IPAs for every mood or all that many food pairings. I think there's something to be said for a pilsner for it's light flavor. I'm suprised radlers aren't that big here. It took a while for grapefruit summer ales and shofferhoffer to get going, but they seem to have poofed and gone out just as fast.

The point of IPAs was that they were ales that were exported from Britain to the colonies in India (hence the name), and in order for them to survive the weeks or months long trip they had higher alcohol content as well as more hops, since hops are naturally antiseptic.

I don’t usually shit on craft beers, but I really hate this trend where American craft “pilsners” are hopped to hell where they essentially become IPAs. And then it costs $14 for a four-pack (and I can get a 6-pack of Urquell for $9)
