What's /ck/'s opinion on SPAM? I like to cube it up and fry it in butter until it's crispy.

Slice it thin for a sandwich, brunoise with spinach and chives for a nice omelet or scrambles.

It's fine, but a little difficult to justify buying considering how expensive it is. I always read and heard people describing Spam as latchkey-kid and college student fodder, but that must have been before my time since I've always found it to be more expensive than fresh ground beef or pork.

It literally costs as much as a pound of ground beef or chicken breast. The only place it might be worth buying are remote areas where you need to have things shipped to you.

I fucking love spam for a breakfast sandwich.

English muffin
1 slice of spam fried up until crispy
1 fried egg
2 slices of extra old cheddar cheese
Mayonnaise
tobacco sauce

Such an easy and quick breakfast that tastes so fucking good.

It's not really expensive, especially now that fresh meats have been rising in prices as of late. Like a can of Spam is only $2.70 at Kroger and Walmart by me. Same price at Dollar General too. Bacon is between $5-$7 and climbing in price.

why get one can next time you go shopping and just leave it in the cupboard. repeat that everytime you go shopping. after a while you'll have 20 cans on standby at any given moment
t. has 19 cans of spam

Franks Red Hot is better than Tabasco tbqh since you have less vinegary taste. Unless you enjoy that of course.

Maybe I should have added that I live in Canada, so pricing might be fuckier than you're used to. My Walmart sells a 340g can of Spam for $4.79 CAD (higher than listed on their website), and a 500g tube of 15%/85% ground beef for $4.50. I can usually find a 3-lb roasting chicken for $6-9, and $5 a handful of times per year.

buy the rooster brand or mario's stuff at dollarama
also don't you have a food basics, freshco, price chopper, or no frills near you? walmart is like a last resort for us
i live in muskoka so I'm just a little bit spoiled on meat, i got a 1/4 pig for $200 from a local farmer back in February and we're just finishing it up now

It's a bit salty. It's a bit expensive (SPAM runs $3.79/12 oz around here; I can get frozen ground beef for $2.99/lb typically, and don't even play that fatty processed canned meat is better quality than fatty ground frozen meat)

Off-brand SPAM (aldi) is much more affordable, and indistinguishable.

The SPAM museum in Austin, Minnesota has over 14000 square feet of square meat, and boasts on numerous billboards that they are not a tasteless tourist trap.

Spam fried rice
Spam n eggs

Spam musubi
All pretty good uses if spam. At least that's what I do with it.

I like the vinegar in Tabasco with fatty food, it's good to balance it out. Plus Tabasco has a slight fermented taste to it since the peppers are aged in barrels before the sauce is bottled which I like too.

I recently made this with butter, garlic, onions, mirin, and soy sauce and it still smelled worse than the open can of sardines I had on the side. I couldn't do it. I ended up throwing all of it away.
