Are the "healing properties" bullshit? I just drink it for the taste and that comfortable/calm feeling it gives me, but some of the medicinal properties they stick on a pair of leaves I can get from my garden are straight up scam tier.

>> No.14397105

Such as?

>> No.14397122

The comfortable/calm feeling is a placebo too. There isn't any psychoactive substance in herbal tea. If you feel that, then you should be able to imagine how it feels to think that herbal tea has other fake properties.

>> No.14397128

It's possible that, depending on the herbs, there might be a small benefit, but more likely than not it's just a placebo effect.

English is not my first language so translating would be a pain. But it's like two paragraphs of stuff like "prevention of various gut diseases and infections, improvement of bladder, bladder control, eases hunger, eases fever, prevention of inflammation, helps with healing wounds etc.".
Reads like a Teleshop ad.

>> No.14397134

>>14397129
Yes all of those are true. The issue is how much they do it. 1% improvement may not be noticeable at all but it is still an improvement.

I just like it to be honest, I drink some variety of it early in the morning and before bed, it's fairly cheap too so whatever I suppose as long as it's not particularly harmful.
Old folks around here are crazy about it.

Yeah 99% bullshit. Having worked in the tea industry I know the process is :

Report comes out saying if you distill extract x from tons of plant y and inject it into rat eyeballs it will decrease their chance of rat dementia by .05%

Tea stores then jam that herb into every tea claiming it will prevent dementia.

Very, very few exceptions.

>> No.14397185

>>14397174
Well, I thought so, the whole thing, even the sites that sell it look suspect as all Hell. I guess at least you're not getting ripped off by much since they're cheap, as opposed to most other scams people usually fall for.
>inject it into rat eyeballs it will decrease their chance of rat dementia by .05%
Made me laugh.

Many herbs have health effects, yes. Some are strong enough that it can be dangerous to drink more than ~3 cups

Idk it depends, the question is so broad. It's like asking is soup really good for you or is alcohol good for u. You need to be more specific. Some herbs like chamomile and valerian root have actual psychoactive properties. Other herbal teas like apple mango or whatever do absolutely nothing, you need to do the research about the herbs yourself

>> No.14397711

Usually they have some antioxidants so most of them are probably good for you in the long run. As far as other properties go I know mint and fennel teas help with a stomach ache. Works for me anyway. And chamomile is anti inflammatory, apparently.

The anti-oxidants contained in green tea are known to be good for you.
In countries in Asia where people drink a lot of green tea, people often lead healthier and longer lives, although there are many other factors.
Drinking a glass of white wine with your meal every day will also give you the same anti-oxidants and can explain the longevity and health of many french people.

No, white wine has a very low antioxidant content. Red is much better in that aspect.

I think it probably can help, but it's not a replacement for medicine by any means. Medicine is typically distilled natural ingredients after all.

Mint tea is great for a bad stomach for example.
