Point of my post is- Texas is so big that of course there's some good shit if you go to the right spot. And we have one of the largest economies in the world, so of course we have good cuisine from around the world in the right spot (Houston).

Niko Niko's and El Tiempo are good standbys, both pretty pricey though, especially El Tiempo.
Biryani N Grill on Dairy Ashford is surprisingly good Indian for the price. Way cheaper than India's or Nirvana.
Kasra is good. Arpi's can be good sometimes. Gyro King if you like doner combo plates.
Many of the places in Vietnam down on Bellaire are good.
There's a billion seafood and cajun seafood places popping up the last few years, a few of them are pretty good. Orleans Seafood Kitchen way out on Westgreen and I10 has pretty much the same menu and quality as Pappadeaux without the ridiculous ass prices they are charging nowadays.
West side is the best part of town for pretty much any kind of food you could want. Except BBQ, so hard to find good Q in Houston.

I've been to Chuy's many times. The best thing they have going is the happy hour with the self serve chips and salsa/queso/refried beans bar. That is, if you can get a seat in the crowded ass bar area and if you can get a server's attention

Other than that, it's sub par tex mex at high prices in a loud, uncomfortable, and crowded atmosphere. I hate that Chuy's is considered an Austin mainstay. They have not earned it in my opinion. I'll take Trudy's over Chuy's any day
