I think starbucks single use packets are okay, and they have ground beans as well as instant powder, blended, so might be doing some science there. I sometimes buy the french packets and make some vietnamese iced coffee from it with some sweetened condensed milk for food pairing reasons.

I am absolutely fine drinking cuban style or italian Espresso powder like cafe Bustelo, stirred into steaming hot milk, and adding some raw sugar. The flavored mexican de la olla has a hint of orange, cinnamon, almond, and is delicious all the way to the end of the jar too. (Just close it fast!).

FYI the instructs/recipe for instant freeze-dried coffee (just add boiling water) is wrong, it over extracts your already perfectly extracted coffee. Which is why most people think it tastes foul. You need to RE-HYDRATE slowly.

1. add desired amount of coffee granules in mug
2. a TINY dash of coconut water 5-10 ml just enough to enable swirling. it should almost be a struggle.
3. swirl for 40 seconds until all cold dissolved and bubbling and smelling nice
4. 20 ml of boiling water + swirl for 30 seconds
5. 20 ml of boiling water + swirl for 30 seconds
6. 15 ml of milk
7. 80-100 ml of boiling water + 10s swirling
...
repeat step 6-7 until your mug is full... step 2 through 4 are the most important steps that will decide the full flavour of your brew.

You know you can put condensed milk in other kinds of coffee, right?
Pulling an espresso shot over a half teaspoon of condensed milk is pretty good.
Gets even more intetesting if you caramelize it (dulce de leche).

Still a soft spot for instant espresso.

It's not good compared to regular espresso, but I find it far nicer than most instant coffees.

This was the best one I tried, actually had the most flavor. But you still have to use more of it or less water for it to taste right, and it's best with a lot of milk. Not a replacement for real coffee or espresso but not bad either.
