America invented Italian food. I realize that at one time Italian "people" had their own original cuisine, but that has went to the wayside and no one even remembers what those dishes were. Ever since America reinvented Italian food, the country of Italy has changed it's cuisine to copy it. It's easily observable. They don't even have a dish without tomatoes anymore, which is an ingredient invented in America. Also dominos is now the most popular pizza there.

Spaniard here. Here I come. 50% of worldwide olive oil is produced in Spain. Spain exports a lot to Italy each year. Italy cannot produce enough for the italians demand so they mix spanish olive oil with italian and pretend it's national olive oil. Salt the bathwater. Clean yourself while you clean the bats. If you're not a seasoned legionnaire by the time you're clean, you didn't put enough salt in, and you'll die of bat-borne Legionnaire's Disease. You've got two choices - be a centurian, or be a casualty. Always salt the god damned water Gio!

Born and raised in the back alleys between Chinatown and Little Italy... sometimes the bats were the easiest to steal - the chickens fought back too hard, and the cats kept stealing my goldfish. So eating bat is an italian american tradition then, I got it.
This must be what americans mean when they say they perfected italian cuisine.

Italy may have been a great country at one point, but they have stalled as a nation and have become a burden upon the EU. Rather than to innovate and create new buildings and architecture they spend their whole day trying to recreate a past that has been long gone. It's what they base their entire economy on and without it they are good as broke. While other nations are out there being innovative and bringing new ideas Italy is too busy digging up some ancient floor that has long been abandoned.

The same can be said for Italian food. Recipes that have not changed for years nor any new innovation. "If it ain't broke don't fix it"? More like, they have their heads shoved up so far up their ass they can't recognize how boring, bland, and flavorless their food is. Disgusting deserts. Boring chocolate. Flavorless meats. They consider pepper to be the most flavorful/spiciest seasoning. If you had one pizza or pasta dish, you've, literally, had them all. The only thing Italians are good at are bread and cheese, and that's it.

Until Italy decides to stop clinging on to the past and move forward their food nor their nation will ever achieve anything remotely akin to true greatness.

> The same can be said for Italian food.
While you were correct in the first part of the post you lost it all when you wrote about food, really some uneducated post.

> Recipes that have not changed for years nor any new innovation
Recipes did change. dishes like carbonara and so are less than 50 yo which are not that old gastronomically speaking.
Also the whole italian cuisine change and adapt but in a sensible way while maintaing the identity of a dish.
What kind of evolution other country had, aside from usa which didn't really have a cuisine in the first place?
The whole evolution I see in other country is more "whatthefuckareyoudoing", like candy bacon and such, or just importing dish from other countries.

> they have their he> ads shoved up so far up their ass they can't recognize how boring, bland, and flavorless their food is
Yes, so boring it is the most exported cuisine in the world.
Also I can't even imagine what you could mean by "boring". If you can't enjoy a simple spaghetti with tomatoes there's something wrong with your palate. it's cool, but don't try to blame the cuisine for your childish palate.

> Disgusting deserts
Like tiramisu, cannoli, sfogliatella, cassata?

> Boring chocolate
Italy doesn't make chocolate. To be completely correct, siicily has a very traditional chocolate product (modica chocolate) which is a really old way to prepare chocolate (skip the conching phase). I prefer my chocolate to be sandy instead of melting

> Flavorless meats
The only almost on point part. But this only applies to muscles because on the other category Italy btfo every other country
> cured meat: Prosciutto crudo, prosciutto cotto, salame, capocollo, coppa, culatello, bologna, pancetta, guancial bresaola just to name the most known
Being a old poor country, Italy has a very strong and deliciuos traditions of offals preparations (cow stomach, spleen sandwich and so on)

> They consider pepper to be the most flavorful/spiciest seasoning.
No, the spiciest seasoning is red pepper, Calabria has a strong fetish on red peppers, and generally they are spicier to me than other famous red peppers I tried.
Pepper isnt' considere flavorful, i don't know where did you get that.
Common spice used in Italy are: saffron, sage, oregano, pepper, red pepper, mint, parsley, wild fennel, thyme.
It's on par with every other country if not more, unless we are talking about india

> If you had one pizza or pasta dish, you've, had them all
pizza is a regional dish and pasta is a center/south thing. All the other region have whole cuisine without pasta and pizza. And even south italy the dishes that have pasta are less thatn the one that has it.

> The only thing Italians are good at are bread and cheese
Italy is top 3 in almost every category of food.

> Until Italy decides to stop clinging on to the past and move forward their food nor their nation will ever achieve anything remotely akin to true greatnes
