I always do them under the grill. Make sure you flip them over to get the bottoms nice and browned and crisp too. The reason for this is you are going to smother them in lots of butter, so they need to be very sturdy. The butter will melt into them and make them crisp, squidgy and chewy and delicious.

Once you've done them with butter you can experiment with other things. One alternative way of serving them is to dip them in beaten egg and fry them.

They are basically a vehicle for butter. It melts through the holes and saturates the whole thing so that when you take a bite it floods your mouth. It's like when you dunk your biscuit.

Toast them then put peanut butter on. Or just butter. Nothing like an English muffin.

Those are sourdough which is not the typical flavor of a crumpet, but yes, they are the nearly the same exact recipe as english muffin dough (a bit thinner dough), and you don't have to split them in half to to toast the nooks and crannies. Those bubbles formed during cooking the underside without a flip to close up the holes like you do with english muffin dough.

Just enjoy them toasted, right from the toaster, or you can cook them in butter in your pan until toasted like a griddle. Smear butter on top. Oozy over easy egg would be nice too.

I'd say if you bought a normal flavor, you'd enjoy them with sweet stuff on top alternately: honey, jam, cream cheese, anything else, but those are sourdough. Marmite and butter also good.

Toast them and butter them, then put whatever you would like on toast. Personally, honey or yeast extract is really good.

They're not similar to English muffins in texture or eating. I don't understand what kind of crumpets could be considered similar to an English muffin, they're basically both usually round but that's about where it ends.
