People our age just have nostaliga for the old designs because you remember some early childhood trip to the mall or birthday party or whatever when a new videogame, some friends, 20oz of cola and some junk food were novel enough to blow your mind. It was always a corporate product created by people who wouldn't ever eat it themselves. I think there is at least some qualitative difference. 70s-90s corporate restaurants were separate entities trying to differentiate themselves, while nowadays there's been some consolidation and many of the major players are under the same corporate umbrella. More importantly, instead of each brand trying to stand out, now they're all trying to imitate Chipotle, so they're all quite similar to one another.

this is very arguable. >>14239586 is just your average rundown no-name restaurant look. >>14239875 is generic design of the 70s - wooden paneling and rounded letters. >>14239715 interior is standard 80s squiggly lines and pastels.
you might say the buildings looked distinctive, but so what? Olive Garden obviously imitates Italian buildings, does it make it "soul"? it's just a cheap fake imitation. and the old BK "castles" looked more like theme park rides, which might be ok for some kids' chain but not really cool for everyone else.
I can agree still that some part of identity was lost, but this is what chains should think harder about. When everything looks the same it's not great from design standpoint, this much is true. however, this is not the only part of design.

That's something I'd expect for the burger flippers, not a junior manager position. Even $45K would be a step up at McDick's for a manager.
But then you have Taco Bell promising $100K which makes McDick's look downright hilarious.

I was a poor, sad internet kid in the mid 90's. My stepfather worked for USWest so I was the first kid in my entire school district to have DSL. I spent my days downloading mp3's and more from Napster. I would take requests from kids at school and download and burn music onto CD's for $5.00 a disk which kept me cool with everyone, despite being an unpopular fat kid. (Everybody pretty much shared the same taste in music, so not much changed other than the song order. Easy money.) On the weekends we would always go out to dinner and a movie. I liked Fuddruckers but I always cast my vote for Chang's Mongolian Grill. But back then even going to Wendy's was a decent dining experience. Applebees was pretty new in my area and was a good place to go and had a great atmosphere, as was Olive Garden. Today the restaurants all have a sterile, cold feeling about them, but so do a lot of the people who eat at them anymore.

I will say though that I don't think Olive Garden has ever changed their decor in the entire time I've been going there.

Fuck off baby zoom zooms. We are what made the internet great. Your faggot generation came in and made it shit with your smartphone social media “””culture””” and complete lack of creativity+skill which turned this entire site into a circlejerk of normalfaggotry (ie fitness and politics). You retards have stagnated internet culture to a point where you are literally treating 12 year old memes (“feels good man” frog and feels man) like they are the hot new thing. We need a virus that wipes out everybody 24 and under.

back in the day, fast food was quality and known as just cheaper, slightly less quality but still good food. Not great, but it really was good.
Bottom-line of course turned it into replacing real food with total disgusting shit and making it all terrible.
Hell, back when no one really went to college (early 80s and before) you were one of the cool kids if you happened to get a job at McDonalds. Like it was kinda "prestigious"

There is the common fad of making a building not recognizable as a franchise outside of its sign, forcing the customers to seek out signs to identify the building, building brand recognition. Where if you just knew what it was by looking at it, you wouldn't look at the sign.
