14196729 No.14196729 [Reply] [Original]

Had to go pick up some vodka tonight and almost missed last call at the grocery store (the drug store was already locked up and dark). Turns out everything is closing early now because of the protests, and I don't even live in an urban area. Also picked up some Taco Bell on the way home - for good measure. Anyone else being affected by this silliness?

I've tried every iteration of Taco Bell's nachos, and the dollar nachos (add onions) consistently have the best topping to chip ratio.

I rarely order a $5 box outside of double chalupa season, but when I do I always sub out the cinnamon twists for chips and guac, and get a soft taco instead of the hard shell. Usually I get the taco al fresco, but I decided to go vanilla tonight, and instead of the half a handful of cold shredded cheddar they usually throw on top I got it melted. This means it was either made fresh, or had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. There was virtually no green in the lettuce so I'm not really sure which is the case. Regardless, a few chips with a little of the gauc and a single packet of fire sauce does wonders for Taco Bell's namesake.

Here's the order. If you enjoy a fountain drink and use the chips and dip to enhance the other items - and have been hitting the car flask - it's not hard to justify the $5 chalupa box. It's basically 5 items for $5, and considering it comes with a 5 layer, which goes for practically $3 these days, it's almost a steal.
>>14196889
>shredded chicken quesadilla melt
I'm not a fan of TB chicken or TB quesadillas; I know that's kind of a hot take, but I've tried and posted about them many times in the past. The best thing some anon recommended with the chicken quesadilla was to open it up and wrap it around a spicy tostada for a $2 crunchwrap, but I'm too old to be combining dollar menu items, and opening up anything grilled is tantamount to sacrilege.

When I arrived at the grocery store a kid was holding the doors open and saying we had one (1) minute to shop before closing. I only needed vodka and rye bread, but still managed to shuffle down the frozen aisle and spot this passion orange guava concentrate for 99 cents. The good news is that the ingredient list goes guava > passion > orange. The bad news is that the first ingredient is HFCS, which is why I'm using such a small glass, and will probably finish the pitcher after I finish the two handles.

Of course I got stuck behind the 60 year old soccer mom at the checkout (irl 42, but will die before me due to all the fake tanning), and of course she forgot how credit cards work, just like every other 9 times she goes grocery shopping for arugula and pocky each week. They had these little bottles of Tajin on sale at the checkout, so I figured "why not?", and the car flask was wearing off. I assumed this shit was like chili powder with other Mexican seasonings, but it's more like 80% salt, 15% artificial lime flavor, and 5% chili. What in the actual fuck do Mexicans even use this for other than rimming their micheladas and dumping it on Tijuana garbage plates? It was a cheap impulse buy, but I at least figured I could find something to use it on.

I added the rest of the guacamole to the nachos via a loose chip, and love how it looks like some Dr. Slump shit. Taco Bell guacamole isn’t very good, but it’s not exactly sub par if you’re already going to be eating Taco Bell. That's not a mark against Taco Bell. I love Taco Bell. It's just that Taco Bell exists in it's own universe. I love fire sauce, for example, but would never use it on anything other than Taco Bell, because that would just be weird.
>>14196781

I’m not sure how they put the nachos together, but the toppings are layered with the chips, and there’s always a bunch of nacho cheese and red sauce at the bottom of the bin.

I only have a few drams of whiskey a night, and I have around 30 bottles, so no. If I have more than a little whiskey/beer a night I'll wake up hungover, so I only drink those for a little taste to complement my meals, and otherwise stick to vodka. I would, however, recommend this small batch Jefferson's Reserve with a chalupa.

What’s going to be for dinner tonight? I know what I’ll be drinking later, but I’m unsure of what to eat. I’ll have a dram of Redbreast 12, among a few other small drams of some decent whiskey. It’s only 10:00 am where I am, so I have time to think about dinner.

I planned on saving the fritos burrito for breakfast, but it ended up being more of a 4am snack. I’ve known a few “y’all” motherfuckers in my day who tried to foist frito pies on me and pass it off as “comfort food”, but even when my mom used to buy those cheap chip variety packs for my lunch in elementary school my unrefined, 7 year old palate already knew that fritos were trash. That said, the fritos burrito is still the best dollar menu item, and if you save it for later and reheat it the added red sauce should significantly soften the chips to the point where they’re akin to thickening your chili with a little masa meal, and the seasoning isn’t disgustingly offensive like those dorito loco taco shells.

If you're a bong, just eat at random Mexican joints. They are much better than Taco Bell. TB is good if you're drunk out of your mind and want something really greasy and salty to eat. I worked there as a teenager back in the mid 00s and nothing there is fresh outside of the salad components (which are still frozen before reheating). All of the meat and nacho plastic cheese comes frozen and precooked in a bag that is reheated after submerging it in 180 degree water for 10 minutes. The beans are dehydrated shit that is shipped in a paper bag. They are quickly hydrated with the same water, stirred, and then promptly dumped into a metal container that is partially submerged in nearly boiling water.

>> No.14211275

>>14211232
>fast food in america is akin to street food in other countries
Even with the qualifier, I really don't like that analogy. Most of the US doesn't have anything you could really call street food, because it's a big country, and is spread out, and aside from being cheap and convenient fast food is almost the polar opposite of street food. There's maybe 3 cities where it's even more convenient not to have a car (I'd say NYC, downtown Chicago, and maybe Boston, because fuck driving in Boston). Everywhere else it's really inconvenient not to have a car, so there's not really a market for anything like street food. There are a few places, such as Portland and Austin, but even with their halfway decent public transportation most people still drive.

It's all frozen shit from a factory that is reheated in plastic bags by dumping them in 180 fahrenheit water for a set amount of time. The chips are, at least, raw when they are shipped to a store (but still preformed and frozen) so it takes a few brain cells to remember to pull them out of the fryer and sprinkle some salt onto them.
