I think its more of the fact that the suffering is visceral and applied over prolonged periods of time. Some creatures like fish or amphibians have less complex nervous systems so the motion that is seen may often be involuntary and just occurring post-mortem BUT the fact that the got-damned chinks wish to watch this occur and even go so far as equating the inflicted pain to enhanced flavor is just fucked up. As a Westerner, I must also admit that eating food that prominently displays the head and body parts with unaltered appearances is really off-putting- this is hypocritical of myself given that I eat chicken wings and like to see barbequed pigs. It's culture shock.

Raising livestock in poor conditions is bad, as well. It happens out of sight and mind for most Americans, however, as opposed to the blatantly rough treatment of creatures that restaurants in China show-off. This difference indicates the major difference- I imagine most Americans if they were informed would want the cruel-treatment of animals to stop as opposed to worrying about whether the meat's taste will suffer because less pain and torture was inflicted. That's the end of my racist rant.
