It is. What we call "dessert" is almost entirely French in origin. It's why the US which is so heavily influenced by the French is so infatuated with sweets.
Everything else we consume as a dessert these days was a savory dish we Americans applied French principles to and made sweet.

Actually most "American" cuisine that is not adapted from native and local ingredients/techniques (like baked beans and barbecue) are italian inspired.

I specifically said the Mediterranean at the end but it seems you still didnt understand. In terms of historical significance and conncections, Egypt is much more of a "European" country than an "African" country.
In the same way Russia despite being a part of continental Asia is not really Asian.
Egypt may have had risen loaves but the straw hut tribes down further south In Africa did not.

This discussion is already pretty muddy but the existence of sweet foods like candies does not mean that desserts were a big thing in those cultures. Just because baclava is older than puff pastry doesn’t mean that the French desserts aren’t infinitely more refined

Lol for a second I thought I wrote this and forgot. Lived in Korea many years and yup same. USA korean restaurants vs Korean are about same. Also, sushi in Japan vs USA is the same (90 percent sushi place in usa owned by Koreans)... Father in law orders pizza in korea, has corn and sweet potatos covered in fake honey... Almost impossible to order pepperoni pizza. Basil does not exist in korea. Also they have no idea about any western herbs. They make great bread though, Japan too.. Dont know why anon had bad bread. Jap/Korean coffee/bread shops are uber based... Koreans make better fried chicken than the world... hmm, yes Jap food is like 5 ingredients over and over and over. In japan I will try and find a subway or mcdonalds after a bit. But we usually get air bnb with kitchen and just go to local market. After 2 weeks in Japan you will get sick of Japanese food.. But first few days its awesome. Egg salad sandwiches are fucking awesome from local 711 or whatnot. Ate whale once..
