Tried the US pizza MRE a few months ago. Very disappointing after waiting 10 years for it. Not bad or anything, just not great. It has good sides, though. Overall, a B+.

The meals the soldiers want are the ones with good sweets, coffee cake or candy

Soldiers will horde those sweets like crazy, almost valuble as cigs on deployment

Drinks too, koolaid and instant coffee, they dont even drink it, they pour it right in their mouths

Tacos are ok. The breakfast part of MRE's are unironically pretty good and better than what I would eat for breakfast normaly.

I got my hands on a French MRE, the Ostrich and cranberries one. It was actually delicious and I wish they sold the canned food here because i'd feed myself only with those.

The tartiflette is meh, not great not terrible.

I don't know where youlive, they are pretty expensive in the US but should be more afordable in Europe.

But you could try the menu 5 (beef tortelini/oriental salad)
Menu 1 (kebab meat/tuna)
Menu 10 (Duck parmentier/iatlian salad)
The 11 is ok, veal is not great but the pork risoto with shrooms is very good once heated.

BUT NEVER EVER the one with lamb, disguting.

Out of all the ones I had there's nothing better than hashbrowns #11

Russia has the best MREs. Tastes like real food. It's cooked with real fire and they come with little stoves. America could learn a thing or two about Russian cuisine. American MREs feel like they are designed for teenagers. Russian MREs feel like they are made for MEN.

Ex Australian Army here, many moons ago we had a 24hr ration pack with ‘lamb and rosemary’. Completely inedible cold, and like eating rank roadkill with a handful of rosemary in it when hot. Hideous.
Beware of Australian ration chocolate too, it has laxatives in it so you don’t bind up in the field.

haven't had a US MRE, but the Russian one I had did generally taste a lot more like real food, the little stove was cute too, but the flame can easily give off light and reveal your position in a low-light situation. Also, the glossy packaging on both US MREs and Russian IRPs is less than ideal. The CAF IMP sucks because they don't come with either a stove or a heater bag, and there's always a shortage on the heater bags that SHOULD just come with them, but the packaging is at least a matte colour.
