I want to go vegan for ethical reasons, but the vegan diet just seems like pure suffering to me. Rice, beans, shitty vegetables, a nutritionally deficient diet.

So, how do I go vegan and not suffer? What meals and staple foods do I eat? Bread and pasta all the time? Wont I die?

My current diet is heavily based around milk/cheese/butter/yoghurt (I'd say the majority of my micronutrients come from these), also seafoods, eggs, breads, muesli, and nuts. I very rarely eat fruit, and the only vegetables I eat are basically for garnish (spring onions, tomatoes, etc).

How did you go vegan? Do you suffer?

>> No.14008286

Okay, I'll take the bait

People around the world exist on a mostly vegetarian/vegan diet due to the cost of animal products. There are a bevy of grains (i.e. couscous, quinoa, farro, freekeh) and not to mention spices to compliment them. These along with vegetables I'm sure you probably sprint past in your haste to pick up the box of Velveeta mummy let you get for not shitting your pants on the ride over. There are tons of foods of recipes online as well that'll give you an idea of what typical vegan meals look like. Vegans are pretty incessant so you won't have a hard time finding some dickweeds vegan blog.

Also, since the bulk of grocery costs come from things like meat and dairy you'll be able to buy far more groceries than you normally would giving you plenty of room to experiment.

are you vegan? what are some of your staple meals? do you suffer any ill health from the diet?

>> No.14008311

No suffering here. I ate more vegetables to begin with and started to develop an aversion to most kinds of meat so it was relatively easy to go cold turkey, and then a shit ton of substitutes for foods I missed after ditching animal products started appearing in stores (ice cream, mostly).
No matter what you’ll likely need to supplement vitamin B12, and probably D if you don’t spend much time outside.
Since you don’t eat much vegetables it’s probably best you gradually start adding more fruits, vegetables and legumes to your diet. Going from no veg to all veg would probably be terrible. Try some new recipes and stick to the ones you like at first, especially recipes that center around legumes since those are usually the main source of protein in a plant based diet.

I was for 8 years. 2 years ago I came to the conclusion that I'm not ethically opposed to killing animals so I saw no reason to continue. Seitan is an incredibly versatile food I'd recommend learning to use. I never felt any different while vegan, my skin actually got worse in terms of acne. When I began eating meat again there were a few periods where my stomach was upset but that was most likely due to high fat content of the foods I was eating.

ethically dairy is arguably worse to obtain than meat since it requires inseminating a cow repeatedly, separating and killing the offspring, and generally violating the animal until it has served its utility and dies. This is just a circumstance of dairy and the only way around this would be to own a cow and go through this process on a micro level.

why not eat lower quality protein like insects if you want to go full soygoy?

Its not like farming doesn't kill animals. if you're okay with that as an ethical thing you could even go out hunting for pest animals that eat up gardens and things. rabbits, bears, boars, deer, freeze them up. These kinds of animals get killed anyway for invading and munching on human property, so there doesn't seem to be a moral arguement on the basis that a plant eater cant eat them.

Consider jews and their african slaves. the most money made off of them is not cotton but in fact sugar, which has a narrow harvesting region and made plenty of africans die. the campaign by other jews to end slavery and net their own low paid labor force for factories had an unbeatable campaign meme where they equated how much human flesh you where effectively consuming per ammount of sugar, which caused the value and demand to just drop like a stone.

If the moral behind that scathing criticism of the sugar industry appeals to you, you have to admit that any ammount of animal flesh harmed in the production of vegetables would have to be justified somehow.

you really don't need that much protien to not die from vitamin deficiencies as a vegan, so its not pointless. It's very much not a healthy lifestyle in 90% of cases, since most of the supplimentation is poison for you. But if you select your fats carefully you can live relatively well off a 95% plant based diet
