Started as a warehouse operative (picker/FLT) then i sent a internal application (3 times) for a trainer position, got that and during a quiet season (mostly summer) i did some office work that i found easy to do (e-mails, daily productivity results etc.) At one point my boss figured out that i prefer staring at the excel sheets for 8 hours and be fine about it... Boom - Warehouse Administration job a.k.a doing boring office shit while listening to music/podcasts on my headphones.

Here's the bombshell - I'm a fucking immigrant and my homeland CV isn't even taken serious in my new country.

You're judged for not contributing if you can't cook or have something else going on the night before, the food is almost always tepid and not very good, it's fattening bullshit that you have to eat as not to offend regardless of wanting to take care of yourself, and absolutely worst - it's an excuse to keep you in the office instead of taking your fucking break.

Same thing goes for "catered lunches." Oh man, I'm supposed to jerk myself off that the company bought $100 worth of pizzas when they saved themselves the money on a roomful of people that make $25-$75 an hour, who are now not leaving the office, but instead having a meeting?

But I wanna work from home on days where I have no meetings, or show up at 9 and leave at 5? Better think about that performance review.

When I worked at EA, only the higher ups were allowed to eat the food. I got in shit for eating some taquitos and had to meet with hr. On my last day, I stole a bunch of beers though, and I don't even drink. Fuck the game industry.

Yes and no. My very first job when I was 16 was a office/computer supply type warehouse job. There was no air and it was about 120F inside during the summer. There were normally around 40 people working on any given day and it was rare if we didn't lose at least 2-3 each day. They'd leave and the temp agency would send more to replace them. We had a short morning meeting before starting each day and everyone was so pissed from the day before because we were so shorthanded, 3 temps opened a window in the break room and left before the shift even started. The only good thing (other than some cool as fuck people to get drunk with after work) was our monthly BBQ. The managers would grill massive amounts of meat. Plenty for everyone to pig out and take some home. We actually didn't feel like underpaid slaves for our lunch hour.

My next warehouse job after that was a union job. It was a grocery store warehouse. All the low seniority slaves did 90% of the work while the old fucks sat in the break room drinking coffee and smoking all day. We'd get catered food or have a bbq a few times a year. The old fucks never bothered to announce when the food was ready over the PA so us slaves could come get our tiny share. During one bbq, the old fucks literally ate and threw shit into ziploc bags and took it out to their cars before letting us slaves know the food was ready.

Being union, they had the amount of "work" that we had to do picking each day down to the 100/th of a second. You could work really hard for a week and spend the 2nd week doing absolutely nothing as long as your 2 week productivity didn't drop below 100%. All the lower slaves usually did 150% to make up for the old fucks. We all spend the 2nd week sitting in the break room while the geriatrics had to spend a week actually working and lifting heavy boxes. They never screwed us out of food again. Sorry for the long story. I'm bored as fuck and drunk because there's nothing better to do. I love yous.

My previous office would do potlucks around certain holidays and the food was always good. The company is pretty diverse so you got plenty of good food. I imagine these must suck if you worked with mostly white people.

Eh, we never really did potlucks outside the occasional seasonal thing where people would bring stuff in. Generally management would order lunch for everyone and we would chill out in the cramped lounge and ate. I do kind of miss some of the places we would order from, shit was high quality.
