A dutch baby is a really tasty kind of pancake and you should try it. The center is like a soft, thin clafoutis surrounded by the crispy, puffed up popover edges. It is also very easy to make.

https://youtu.be/PukkPpK5Dew

Since I have the time I made a youtube channel, please watch my first video and say nice things :)
The dutch baby originated from German immigrants in the Midwest, as did many classic American desserts such as Bundt cakes and coffee cake. Dutch babies are usually served as sweet breakfast items but I also like them with bacon cheese and green onions.

That makes sense. "Dutch" is a mispronunciation/misspelling of Deutsch (German), because it is an originally German dish. It is not related to the Netherlands.

>> No.13906067

Your bottom is too dark and the protein seized up, ie tough to cut, because you should make the entire thing in the oven. See that splitting on the sides? Uneven cooking. There is absolutely no stovetop step up front. Warm the cast iron in the oven while preheating the oven. There's no cooking for 2 minutes on the stove, just burns the bottom of the eggs without the rising from the heat from above.
Your batter has way too much egg to flour ratio, far too eggy, and too much batter in that pan, which is likely because you inaccurately sized down a recipe for your mini pan there. It's going to just taste like an omelette, not that custardy light thing it should be.
I'm going to also suggest you make the batter in a blender.
Remove pan from oven, hit with the butter, and pour the batter in, return to oven, and it's literally a minute or two .
You don't need to butter it twice, the oil rises to the surface and browns it at the same time it cooks.

The main advantage of marble besides its appearance is durability and it can stand up very well to heat. Many fireplaces are made of marble. The only thing to be really careful with is citrus but otherwise marble is very resistant.

>>13906067
Good criticisms, thank you. I guess 2 minutes was honestly an overshot and I did not mention that you should lower heat during that time. I've always included that step and enjoyed the results but I'll try it 100% in the oven next time. However I do prefer it just a little more cooked in the center so it does not get soupy anywhere, I would rather risk a little overcooked than under. Also did not want to have to pull out the blender for a little frilly pancake, but it would have made a smoother batter

I took creative liberty in the first video, so the ratios of flour and cooking time were slightly off. Didn't want to deceive you and burn your baby if you decide to make one. I also corrected the typo but kept the song because I like it.

He is correct, the name dutch baby was popularized by a cafe in Seattle and led to it becoming popular in the US. nonetheless it was inspired by a sort of German pancakes
