>Coronavirus Era

Are food websites just writing sensationalist shit or should we really be stocking up on pantry foods to last the rest of the year?

I keep a well.stocked pantry and freezer as a general rule so stocking a little extra is no big deal. It won't go bad.

Personally, I think everyone should have at least a 3 month supply of food for themselves and their family, but that's just general emergency prep, not COVID-19 specific.

experts are dumb fags

I struggle NOT to have a month's worth of crap I don't feel like eating at any time

because i don't live in a communist shithole, someone, somewhere, would come out with an option to buy food by my next shopping trip

You should at least be able to survive a quaranteen if you’re sick. So maybe a month+ worth of food.

yeah this.
once you're totally post-symptomatic you should be good to rejoin society. but it's inconsiderate to go out while contagious.

Yes. They are sensationalist bullshit. People are stupid and ignorant, so when something like COVID-19 happens the mass media sensationalizes it because they know that stupidity + ignorance = fear, and fear = $$$. These food websites are riding on the same fear-wave in order to capitalise on the mob of retards.

Should you stock up on food and water for a potential emergency? Yes. Natural disasters can affect literally anyone on Earth, so it is common sense to have a little stockpile just in case. COVID-19 panic is something else entirely. If you are generally healthy and not old then you have little to fear other than potentially being locked down in your home for 14-21 days. So if you are going to stock up on food then make sure you do it realistically. Don't go full retard like everyone else is, stocking up like the fucking world is about to end, because it isn't. Chances are that if you look through your pantry you already have enough shelf-stable food to last you part way through a potential quarantine. Keep calm and carry on.

do you realize that this is a pretty big deal for most Americans? there are a lot of people in this country that have never lived through an extended emergency of any kind and never been without the global economy for more than maybe a day or two (if that)

Residential Care Homes for the elderly are mandated by their licensing entities to have a 7-day supply of non-perishable food and water on hand at all times in addition to a full 4 day supply of perishable foodstores., so I don't see any problem with doing this on a 30-day rotation. Besides, you can always use stuff like rice and beans, canned tomatoes, soup, etc and rotate it out every year by just eating it.

that aside, those with a conscience will want to self-quarantine if they're infectious, which would necessitate staying at home anyway.

Or the other way around, if this gets big enough, the outbreak gets severe enough, you may want to stay at home and have the supplies to do so to avoid the infection.
