I ran through that entire study and it seems to base it all almost entirely on brand loyalty, of which I notice Texans usually are blindly loyal to their state and their brands.
It brings up multiple factors that influence consumer preference, and it shovels that all into an overall "Emotional Attachment" score (Trust, Likelihood to Recommend, Loyalty etc) and then scores that with the grocer's Financial Performance (Market Share, Sales per Sqft, "Recession-Proof"). That's where it determines which grocer is the best.

Interestingly enough, Costco only seems to place on the list in the Consistency category. All other categories they are under 10th place or simply do not place at all. I'm surprised they got top ten at all.

Yeah, it's mostly a two-way split between Hannaford and Shaw's in the southern part of the state. Goddamn I used to live in Waltham, just outside of Boston and I loved it. MB was part of my life. This is bringing me the feels.

Their doughnuts are god tier. Especially their cronuts. Too bad they're closing a shitload of stores.

Publix's choice of steaks is absolute garbage compared to walmart. I went there knowing I would pay more for ribeyes but when i saw them, they had almost NO marbling and they were a lot thinner than walmart's. I know it's hip, cool and popular to hate on walmart, but there's just no comparison on this point. If i wanted thin and lean steaks like what Publix offers, I'd just go to Piggly Wiggly and get them a lot cheaper.

I like HyVee, but their quality varies a lot by location. You can have some really nice ones with great product variety and quality food options, and then some other ones that are more low-market.

Also I wouldn't say it's the flashiest, but I always liked Meijer when I lived in MI. State minimum alcohol prices on everything was based

The Market Basket in Manchester, NH gets totally swamped with Somalians and assorted nogs past 10am.

I'm pretty sure Hannaford's market angle at this point is to use their higher prices to keep the minorities away.

Grew up in Rochester where they're everywhere, moved a few states south, not as many, now I'm probably moving to the west coast. It's literally the only thing I'll miss.

I think it's just stupid people being anti technology.
