Do you think that a vegan diet is feasible for the poor, or is it just a lifestyle choice that the privileged middle upper classes try to force on those below them?

There’s a lot of exaggeration and vegan-hate that’s corrupting the real basic knowledge that would answer this thread, but I’ll just say this:

The cheapest and most well-maintainable diet for a complete poor fag would absolutely be to eat brown rice, beans, peanut butter, deenz, and some additional fruits/veggies that fit the budget. It would absolutely be sustainable (remember, civilizations have sustained themselves on god awful diets for hundreds of years with no ability to gauge dietary/nutritional needs/values) but would probably be awfully boring and quite depressing. Remember iodized salt so you don’t get goiters!

Shitloads of peasants in really poor parts of Medieval Europe were basically vegan. In fact, in really poor parts like the ass-end of Eastern Europe peasants ate an almost vegan diet (cereal gruel and vegetables, either grown or wild, with maybe some pork fat) all the way into the 19th century, because they sold all the higher value meat/dairy products. However all the reports from royal investigators mention that children are weak and sickly, and the people generally tend to suffer various ailments (both skeletal and visceral) brought about by incomplete diet.

Culturally Muslim people will drink and fornicate and maybe feel bad about it but they're just humans like the rest of us, it's just that the culture around them tells them to be like this. They'll eat pork if it's pork-or-starve, and even dedicated Muslims will do this because it's explicitly permitted to do so if the alternative is death.

But nobody is "Culturally Vegan." Every vegan is a "Dedicated Vegan." And their faith doesn't say "But it's OK if the alternative is death." I suspect if you go to a place where people are culturally vegetarian (Jains?) you'll find people who are willing to break vegetarianism in starvation situations, much like Muslims are willing to deal with haram food when the alternative is starvation.

Maybe it's feasible in first world countries, but not in a third world country like the one I live in. The average income over here is barely enough to eat rice, corn, beans, lentils and pork like everyone else does. I also get to eat a lot (and I mean a LOT) of fish because I live in a shitty beach town. Vegetables and fruit other than tomato, onion and chili peppers are too expensive to eat often too. Supplements are expensive as fuck as well because they are all imported so they cost well over 3 or 4 times what they would cost in the USA and to get them I'd have to travel to the city. Not to mention that no one ever goes to see a doctor unless they know they're actually really sick, again, because of cost.
Of course, the higher class people on the big cities can be vegan even in my country, but I live in a shitty coast town where I'm lucky one internet provider decided to extend their service to.
So, for actual poor people (not the fake poor people in the USA) it's really not possible.

huh.
Well that figures. Only small numbers of Indians are even vegetarian, amongst vegetarian couples turns out only the female is vegetarian. Looks like the only thing that's mostly taboo is beef. Derp. Western veganism is so bizarre.

Other supplements are needed, so a vegan can have healthy supply of fats, calcium, vitamin d, and etc.

Cruciferous vegetables' calcium is as bioavailable as milk and they have a large amount (1 bok choy [little over lb] = 80% DV). Calcium is in a lot of other stuff too. Vitamin D is made by sun exposure and the only appreciable supply from the diet is from fish and milk with supplements added. The only fat that's of concern is DHA and EPA (only found in appreciable amounts in fish) which the body can make from ALA which is in a lot of plant foods

So you're saying that you have to eat over a pound of bok choy, run around naked in the sun, take supplements, eat fish, drink milk... wait this stopped being vegan.

No retard obviously other things have calcium as well. Calcium is not a concern if you're eating plants. Also you say that like it's hard to do, I could eat lbs of bok choy. Never said anything about running naked in the sun.
> take supplements
I actually highlighted that you're already taking them if you drink milk and never said you had to eat fish, only if you refuse to eat plant foods high in ALA I guess.

> be regular retard who doesn't realize plants have nutrients

You have to eat more than a pound each day, and still have room for other vegetables.
>Never said anything about running naked in the sun.
Is it an autism?
>I actually highlighted that you're already taking them if you drink milk
What does drinking milk have anything to do with having to take supplements, and why would one naturally have to take supplements when drinking milk?

>Vitamin D is made by sun exposure and the only appreciable supply from the diet is from fish and milk with supplements added.
It just seems like you're having problems expressing yourself, and you end up lashing out while blaming others.
> be regular retard who doesn't realize plants have nutrients
Yes just eat 10+ pounds of these vegetables a day, and you'll still need to take b12, and fat supplements to survive.
> have to get all your nutrients in fortified white flour because too stupid to eat a vegetable
I could just get my nutrients from liver, and not have to touch vegetables, but I'm actually omnivorous, and eat vegetables myself. Btw ost fortified foods are disqualified by veganism, because they are usually fortified with animal sources.
Also you're drifting too far away from thread topic which is questining if veganism is a lifestyle that poor people can adopt to financially.
Everything you posted seems to make it seem impossible for poor (and rich people) to properly adapt.
Now go cry somewhere faggot.

Retard
I would be 100% vegan if I was only concerned about cost because I can get far over RDA of every vitamin for everything + b12 pill for about $3 a day (less than what the average person who is deficient in many things spends) I just think meat is good tasting and don't trust supplements.
