Just bought these today. Managed to get the last Lag 12 in the area with the old (not lame) label. Also managed to get it before the price jumps up $40.

I asked in the last thread, but no one answered: is Evan Williams Bottled in Bond worth sipping on just for the flavor? I see people rave here that it's truly great for the price, but I'm not sure if they're raving because it's an interesting dram for sipping, or just because it's a tolerable drinker which is relatively rare at the price point.

Disregarding price, EW is mediocre for sipping. But for the price, you won't get anything better for sure.

My only scores lately have been bottles of Talisker and Laphroaig that the stores mislabelled at the 750ml price point when the bottles were 1L so that was pretty nice

EW BiB is not a great sipper. Great price though.

Is this going to happen soon? Are new tariffs on whiskey from the UK and Ireland happening?

Yes and no. for some, they've already happened. others haven't happened yet, and some (like the laga 12) are happening now.

threre's a few states, like Michigan, that do all liquor through a central monopoly. These states have pricebooks available that tell you the minimum retail amount you'll find it for (unless someone is doing stuff under the table). With each book release (every 3 mo or so) they also release a list of everything that has changed. From my browsing, most stuff went up like 10-15, but there's some that jumped a lot more. JW black went down 5 though, lol.

I'm sure the price changes aren't 100% attributable to tariffs, there's probably other factors, but afaik, it's the best way I know to keep an eye on it. The new book for MI goes into effect Sunday, so if you live here, it's a good idea to check the book then go to stores to see if they still have them listed at the november prices.

Bib expressions are generally a step up from the base line. The price point is attractive, but it's still less than $20 most of the time, and tastes like it.

Idk where to find the historical ones. I have November's floating around somewhere, but not the November 'price change' sheet, which is what you really want to find to see how things are moving since tariffs. I would look at that sheet and the Feb changes, and anything that's not on either is due for a change.

thanks for the answers guys. Wish I'd asked a more open-ended question in the OP to better christen a new whiskey general. Should have asked 'how long does it take you to finish a bottle?'

>> No.13587185

>>13586171
Takes me about a year, up to three. I've posted my collection a few times. As an example, my barrel proof international release only Blanton's? That's going to be around for a while, probably save the last few pours for when (if) I ever get another bottle. E.h. y Taylor and my buffalo trace? Probably a year. New riff? Finish the bootie when I've got a couple replacements. I've got a few I'm drinking down to clear shelf space, wasn't terribly impressed with them. Found one that really opened up after being open a few years.

>really opened up after being open a few years.

It spooks me that this seemingly can go either way. it might open up after a few years, or it might get muted. no way to know.

I'm thinking of investing in some clinical-grade-glass marbles to displace my whisky as I drink it. apparently peat is one of the flavors that dies the most, and I love me some peat.

It was a rye, if that helps. I focus on ryes and bourbons though, ymmv.

>how long does it take you to finish a bottle
1 per day, so 23 days.
At least that's the volume I drink. More recently that has turned into a variable group size each drinking a variable amount from a collection of 30ish open bottles slower than they are replaced.

I purchased 1792 Bottled in Bond, fullproof, and some classic very old Barton. I didn't know Barton made 1792, but it's a good budget (Very old Barton BiB) or a great boutique (1792).

>Evan Williams Bottled in Bond worth sipping on just for the flavor?

My local liquor super store did a blind taste testing because people were constantly asking them about buffalo trace and eagle rare.

Evan BiB and Single Barrel both beat Buffalo and Eagle.

For me, it's Wild Turkey 101, though.

Any good? Only canadian whiskey I've had was Black Velvet. Tasted like mild water.
