HOPS IN BEER ARE FUCKING OVERRATED. Sure it's nice to drink a bitter beer from time to time. But you will grow tired really fucking fast. I cannot drink more than two glasses of IPA or any other bitter beer, it saturates me. I don't understand why people like them so much. A good bland lager is all you need during a hot day when you only want to sit in the porch and chug cans and cans of beer like if they were water

Of course they are overrated. For decades people drank euro pale lagers and american adjunct lagers where the hops were not up in your face and no one had a problem with it.

IPAs are great and very varied, but imperial stouts and porters are the kings of beer world, followed closely by barley wines

I agree to an extent; the IPA craze has been pretty overbearing. I try to stick to single hop brews when I drink IPAs. Hops have different flavor profiles when used properly, though “bitter with a high ABV” still seems to be the most popular (where I’m from at least).

>> No.13525522

the dry hopping wave of things has really improved things on the IPA front, at least here
much more flavour and less overbearing bitterness
the fucking GOAT is pilsner urquell in Czech though, i could drink that everyday for the rest of my life and be happy with it, but the export shit just isnt the same

Gose makes for a good summer beer. They're good at quenching thirst and are low enough in alcohol that you won't be on your face at the end of a long afternoon. Anderson Valley also makes melon, blood orange and raspberry versions of pic related. They're tart and refreshing, not sweet as you'd imagine from the added fruit.

Technically, no. But the hops will lose most of their floral qualities and will just taste flat and bitter, which is not pleasant, and not how they're intended to be drunk. Also, the human palate can't differentiate between 100 and 600 IBUs.

Anon, I've tried them from supermarkets, off bar taps and even direct from the brewer. I got to try Castle Danger's IPA so fresh it hadn't even reached the brewery's storage yet, and guess what? Still shit bitter and flavorless like every other IPA.

>> No.13526566

The problem seems to be that america only knows two extremes: Lite beers with almost no hops or faggy IPAs with so much hops that it taste like shit. Here in europe you have plenty pilseners around 35-40 ibu that have a refreshing hops note but aren't try hard bitter or have flavours that don't belong in a beer.

This. Americans finally realised that beer could have flavour and so they completely overdid it like an alcoholic that's been forced to be dry for months suddenly let into a whisky cellar.

And that's not an insulting thing, it's a fact. Without a cultural knowledge of what varied beers taste like and a willingness to experiment, American small brewers went wild, but the problem is that the predominant form of the American small brewery beer is basically make a high alcohol beer and dump a whole lot of hops in it.

This. Most small brewers are only doing 1 or 2 IPA's for the edgy "babby's first craft brew" kids. It's evolved into alts, bocks, barley wines, dunkels, german/czech lagers, porters, stouts, lambics, etc. IPA's are for the kids.

People like them because they are normally high in alcohol content. Skinny, twig-bean looking faggots drinking even a 6-7% IPA will have them on their ass after just one.

Note you do not see fatties and/or actual alcoholics buying IPAs, ever.
