No, Townsends actually cooks food. He's just a middle-aged guy who likes to cook old recipes out of old books. Honestly, if his channel didn't exist, I wouldn't know about most of these early-American recipes outside of hardtack. I haven't even made much of anything he's posted about (mostly due to calories), but watching him inspired me to learn to cook more in general.
