I get a paid lunch at work so thats one meal a day
have a herb garden so I don't buy those, will be expanding it into a veggie garden for a few basic things
I buy reduced items, so 50-70% off and I don't buy meat unless its reduced like that
I don't buy confectionary or alcohol at all anymore
I go to my parents for dinner once or twice a week, and they have chickens so thats some free eggs

plenty of spice mixes
cook in bulk a lot, bean chilli that's like 4 dollars of ingredients and gets like 6 serves
home made pasta and marinades and such

I used to buy entire beef rumps from the abbatoir I worked at and vacuum it in portions and freeze it

Look, you came in here and called people who spend low amounts of money on food weekly peasants. Did you just come into money? How much do you earn p.a.? 60k? 70k? I guarantee you I have more money than what you earn in a decade, yet I still only spend 50 bucks a week on food. The joke's on you, not me.

Some of you are spending over $500 a month on groceries and I'm probably still a better cook than you. This is sad guys.

>> No.13485198

a bit, i spend most of my spending money on ingredients and cook meals at home from scratch probably 90% of the time. been cooking and baking since i was 12. not having to pay extra for premade foods allows me to splurge on more meat/seafood and nicer quality ingredients feels good being self-sufficient.

$100-$200 for 2 people.

closer $100 when it's winter and we're on the rice, potatoes, beans etc...

closer to $200 when it's summer and quality fruits are in season.

sucks though because we have to juggle 4 fucking ebt cards for that and you have to drive out to other counties to declare that shit.

a wedge of parmesan
pack of stock pots
individual chillies,
if ive got a tote bag with another stores brand on it I can sneak away with some hams, smoked chicken breasts or random kitchen utensils

supermarket here called woolworths now collects all their fresh stuff that's gonna expire in the next day or two and sticks in one area and they put nice bright orange stickers on them
if youre lucky you can peel the stickers off

I blew up about $40 on stuff earlier this week.
It helps that I usually get things as cheap as possible. You might think something on sale is cheaper but you divide the price by the weight and realize that maybe the expensive counterpart is actually cheaper.

Groceries:
>Fruit: two apples and a small melon: $2.50
>Vegetables: three bell peppers: $2
>Meat: A couple hot dogs because I was hungry, can of beef chili - $4
>Pasta: Bag of pappardelle, jar of tomato sauce - $3.40
>Snacks: big sack of potato chips, box of peppermint cocoa cups, box of dark chocolate covered marshmallows, box of candy canes, box of molasses cookies, a couple cookies from a bakery because I was shopping on an empty stomach - $12.50
>Breakfast: six-pack of yogurt - $2
>Dessert - A small but whole cake - $3

This has been an outlier on snacks because leftover Christmas shit. I still have oatmeal and cereal and eggs. I was gonna get potatoes but the 5 pound sack was overpriced this time. I also still have some frozen stuff, mostly chicken and bag of Chinese ribs.
I don't need spices because we have a basil plant growing in the window. We're still working on dill and other herbs.
Also since it wasn't the weekend I didn't see if the winery has anything on sale again. Last time I went by they were selling the remaining few bottles of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc from the year before for $5 per bottle (from around $22 originally). If they're still selling them I can get a bottle for cooking.
You have no idea how amazing dark chocolate red wine glazed chocolate cake is but I'm pretty sure most of you know how much better beef stew is with a bit of red wine in the pot.

I spend however much I feel like that week. Usually it ranges from like... 50-200.00/week depending on what I feel like eating. Surprisingly, steak everyday is one of my cheaper things because I can buy some commercial steak. 8-10 lbs of Strip loin at 4-5.00/lb, or Ribeye at 5-7.00/lb. It also depends on how hungry I get.
