I'm not even going to watch that idiot's video, but you should know that onions are not grown and shipped to the grocery week by week all 365 days of the year. I often soak sliced onions in ice water before using them in some recipes, if they tend to be crazy strong at that moment.

At some point, your onions are ridiculously stronger than another onion, due to intensity and aging. What aging also affects is cell membranes and moisture content. Visualize little onion cells, plant cells, getting either ripped open releasing either a lot of aerosolized plant juices, or cleanly sliced without much effect.

First of all, if I suspect there coule be a problem, I'll do all my other veggie and meat prep first, and save onions for last.
