Carnivores are cancerous as well as full of cancer themselves from all the red meat that they consume. Humans should only eat vegetables, it is what we are designed for, and you don’t have to worry about the pain and suffering an animal goes through when raised by shitty farmers.

a lot of animals get killed during crop harvests. lab grown meat + vertical farms would probably greatly reduce animal deaths together, trying to push people to one extreme diet or the other makes them stop caring so much though.

also how much food is in your stomach isn't the only thing you need to feel satisfied. try filling your stomach with water when you're hungry and it's kind of sickening sometimes. your body can tell if it's gotten enough fat, protein, carbs, iron, soon after you've finished eating, and you won't really feel satisfied eating nothing but low calorie/fat/protein vegetables. vegetables are still healthy though, just not if it's the only thing you're eating.

Vegetables are the least helpful thing for a human GI tract. You hardly get anything of substance digested from the. That's why it takes a giant pile of roughage to match meat in calories. Most of what they have going for them is A) the lack of digestion means fat people can "eat" a lot of it without gaining weight and B) the fiber meme, which is at best on very shaky grounds as far as benefits go (there are studies you can find showing people actually improve from GI symptoms like bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, etc. after cutting out high fiber foods and working with a low residue diet instead).

We’ve been over this. Mechanical planting and harvesting kills between twenty and thirty thousand small mammals per acre, every year. These animals are not instantly killed with a captive bolt gun, but they are crushed to death in their shallow burrows or ripped to shreds by whirling blades. Their atomized gore ends up permeating every single pulse, grain, bit of rice you eat. Unless you believe that somehow a cow’s life is worth more than a vole’s or a rat’s, which is totally stupid thinking as I’m sure you agree, you’re causing more suffering and animal death than if you exclusively ate beef, where you could easily kill only one cow per person per year.

It’s not the meat industry that kills the most animals per year. It’s big grain and soy.

No, only a sick freak of a vegan would eat grains and pulses and beans. It’s absolutely cruel! This is why, as an actually ethical vegan and not just a slave to big grain, you shouldn’t eat mechanically harvested crops of any kind. Imagine this little animals getting crushed, mangled, their guts spurting out in wormlike coils as they are crushed, entire families of them! Tiny little baby bunnies and voles, their eyes just opened for the first time, and the only thing they EVER saw was their poor mommy’s skull getting smashed and her brains coming out, right before that soy harvester kills them too.

Nah. I eat meat and will never stop eating meat. But the idea grain harvesting kills more animals than the slaughter industry is just retarded wishful thinking. The voles and rats speculated about aren't found to actually be killed in those numbers by any study. The most that's been done is showing how there were some rodents in an area before it was taken over for grain harvesting, and the really shaky leap that they all must have died if they're not around afterwards. More likely they're not just sitting there all getting accidentally killed and plenty of them survive by moving on to somewhere else. And after all that what you have is some very tiny number of rodents maybe getting killed compared to a slaughter industry where the fundamental basis of what work is done is prepping and processing animals to be killed for meat.
If you're going to eat meat, take responsibility for it. Don't hide behind stupid rationalization stories everyone knows are bullshit. You can still be a good meat eater, but in order to do that you have to deal with reality so you can actually do your part to promote better living conditions and more humane slaughter methods.

Depends on how large of an animal YOU decide to eat and kill. And it's true that planting and harvesting kills more than the meat industry each year. There are 913 million acres under cultivation in the US, almost all mechanically planted and harvested. so that's about 15 trillion animals killed, many of which are killed to supply vegans, per year.

>The effects of corn and wheat harvest on abundance, movement, disappearance, sex ratio and age structure of Akodon azarae were studied in cropfield–border systems. Sampling occurred both before and after harvest, in crops, in their weedy margins (borders) and in surrounding areas. The abundance of A. azarae decreased in fields between before and after harvest and increased along borders. Rodents moved among habitat patches, movement being higher as a consequence of harvest. There was no difference among habitats in terms of disappearance and sex ratio but changes occurred in age structure because of harvest. In response to harvest A. azarae was able to move from crops to borders, decreasing the mortality effects. The ability to respond to habitat changes allows A. azarae to maximize fitness in periodically disturbed habitats.
tl;dr mice don't just sit there and let themselves get murdered by grain harvesters. They, believe it or not, MOVE to safer locations. Population of rodents decreases in the harvested area and increases along the borders of that area, resulting in a net population without significant change.

Read Dr Kellog's book The Natural Diet of Man. Very enlightening. While it's true we shouldn't be eating meat, vegetables are lacking too. We have the teeth of frugivores. But we're also dependent on the nutrients in eggs and milk. Even Gandhi realized that a vegan diet is detrimental, and unsustainable. We can eat animal products without killing animals, or causing them undue suffering.

We need high protein and fat intake, and there are critical micronutrients we need that can only be found in meat. Not to mention we have omnivore teeth with too little enamel for an all-plant diet.

Our brains couldn't have evolved without being omnivores.
