Am I missing something? Apart from flavoured vodkas, every vodka I've ever had has tasted the same. >> No.13202344

>>13202261
>>13202323
Vodka is supposed to taste as neutral as possible. That's why all producers with respect for vodka distill several times and charcoal filter it. Except absolut, they don't charcoal filter it as some marketing gimmick, claiming they don't need to because their process is so pure or something. They are wrong. Absolut is terrible.

>> No.13202372

>>13202344
Absolut is probably the best vodka I've had (which is admittedly not a lot) just because it had the most discernable "taste" out of any I've tried. It was a lot better for just drinking straight up. Why is Absolut terrible, apart from some bullshit about not following tradition or whatever?

>> No.13202456

That discernable taste is the reason it's terrible. It comes from not charchoal filtering. Vodka is not supposed to have this taste, according to everyone except absolut and their fans.

>> No.13202558

>>13202480
I can't recommend Tito's as I never had it. Polish vodka tends to be the safest bet in my opinion. Those guys are like italians, but instead of arguing how to make food the correct way, they argue how to make their vodka the best way. It's very common they make their own vodka. And polish vodka tend to be very cheap.

There are subtle differences on vodka based on what they are made of, believe it or not. I don't know about corn. Grain is most common, and most traditional. I like potato a lot but I feel the high is a bit more cloudy, but the hangover isn't bad.

Vodka gives a very clean high, almost like a stimulant. Compare to whisky, which will send your consciousness to wherever the whisky wants to send you.

I welcome a shitstorm about the alcohol molecule solely being responsible for the effect of alcoholic beverages. But if you really want to find out, you need to experiment. Change between drinking vodka and whisky every other day until you realise there's more to the high than just the alcohol molecule.

The price range of polish vodka is usually cheap to cheap. I don't know what's available to you. General, the most known brands aren't the cheapest, and what are availeble in the cheapest price class differs a lot by geography. Well known brands that are safe are:

Żubrówka isn't the cheapest, but it's very good vodka and still very cheap. You don't need the gimmick one with the bison grass.

Chopin is also not the cheapest, but you can't go wrong.

If you want very cheap, you will be pretty safe with polish vodka. I find all polish vodka I have tried better or equal to everything up to middle price. Still assuming there exist exceptions.

Now the luxury vodkas aren't usually worth it anyway. But I still think Ciroc is worth trying. It's a grape vodka.

Vodka is absolutely supposed to have a taste. You should be able to discern between different vodkas and especially between vodka made from grain or potato.
