I'm from the Balkans and everyone has AC here since our summers have always been hot (30C+). But I lived in the Netherlands and nobody has AC. The first year I was there, I think there were like 3-4 weeks max of 30C+ temp with the rest of summer being 22-25. With temps like that there is no reason to have AC. Last few years there has been a lot more hot ass days. To make it worse, the Dutch LOVE having giant ass windows that are 2/3 or more of the height of the room so it gets absolutely boiling inside.

As a fat obese person I have a huge problem with cold weather

I underwent an involuntary crash diet due to an extreme medical condition. Lost like half my bodyweight. When treatment brought it under control, I regained most of the weight, as would be expected after an extremely rapid loss like that. Unfortunately, my body responded to this period of starvation by massively reducing its voluntary thermogensis. Despite my 25 bmi, I am fucking freezing in anything below like 20 degrees and come into the office wearing 4 layers and still sit there at my desk shivering.

I've lived in Germany for most of my life, and the kind of summers where it's consistently 30C+ for weeks on end weren't really a thing until around 5 years ago, so most people never bothered with AC.

In the 90s and early 2000s you'd be lucky if it got that hot even for a week or two. Sometimes you'd get summers that were hotter than average (2003 in particular was hell), but these days every summer is like that, and it's gotten more common for people to have AC installed.

That’s a dumb thought, it’s just plain stupidity. What are you trying to suggest, an almost religious assertion that everything will always be okay, that we’re made for this and we’ll survive always? Where could you even get that idea from, historically the top species have repeatedly been wiped out and life had to build back up from tiny survivors. Life itself would be hard to eradicate at the smallest level, things will always be fine in that sense, but we at the top are the most fragile and in danger of change.

It might be a bit unintuitive, but Germany is actually good bit further north than Wisconsin. Also, 2 months is still pretty long by German standards. Like I said, usually there'd be only a week or two worth of hot days during any given summer, and occasionally there'd be none.

German houses also tend to be made out of brick and concrete instead of wooden frames, so they don't heat up nearly as much. I lived in Upstate New York for a few years and temperatures in our house got uncomfortable once outside temps hit 80F. In Germany that usually isn't an issue until you hit the 90s.

You don't know anything about preindustrial farming. It was extremely labor intensive and weather was critical. You had to work sunup to sundown preparing the fields for planting (you can't plow when too wet or too dry because it ruins the soil), manuring the fields (you couldn't just spray petroleum chemicals over the field with gigantic tractors), planting, weeding (no carcinogenic roundup in those days), harvesting (all by hand including even wheat), threshing and storing fodder for the animals. Their only slight downtime was winter, but they still had to care fore livestock.

If you were put in that position today, you would be laying in a ditch quivering and blubbering for mama within 4 hours. That's why we need immigrants to perform non-automated agricultural tasks. American citizens are too soft.

There wasn't a need for ac above southern europe until a few years ago. Only the recent few summers have been hellish.
ACs are getting more common but getting one is fucked since our flats weren't built with a AC in mind. Depending on the counntry you're in there are also alot of roadblocks like having consent of every inhabitant in the building or the building owners denying it or it being illegal without expensive installation by experts.
Also alot of (especially older) euros think draft and ACs make you sick (which it does).
And shower curtains look ugly. Pro tip: Just don't spray water all around you while showering.
