I forgot to mention I'm a New Zealander, I've seen American cooks and they're just burger flippers. In New Zealand you're education is played for by the NZDF (military) and you earn national certificates, so basically you serve for a few years with free accommodation and education whilst earning a wage and you earn a university degree for cookery. So if I decided to leave I'm a certified chef and not an extra off the love boat that spent 5 years getting anally raped with canned beans

If you want to join the military for a degree, follow in my footsteps and go for engineering. Training, school, uni and then mandatory deployment to a base somewhere reasonable where you'll fix radios for 6 hours a day until you get to go home and find a decent job.

My father was a butcher and then joined the air force. He said that when he was given the choice to work in the kitchen or repair AC units and machinery, he chose wrong and with the ACs and he regretted it since. He said that the kitchens would have been a great place to start your military career, because the skills you learn about not just kitchen prep, but teamwork and scheduling and all aspects of social benefits would have been a better choice. New or Old, rank or no, you'll eventually meet EVERYONE and you would become the place where folks come to rest and recover and have something in their belly. His career didn't last long after my mom cucked him and left and he swirled into depression. Poor bastard.

Take this story as a warning, I guess. I say if it's something you see yourself being happy/content to do for the next 5 years, go for it and be a good PROACTIVE team player and try to have some fun with it. It's not a bad place to make your first step into your military career. Once you're in the groove and figure your shit out and look around at other careers - maybe test teh waters or open positions to move around in rank. Keep collecting rank and stars and achievement stickers and gymes to become THE ULTIMATE POKEMON MASTER.
