Discuss recipes and shopping lists for eating with a limited budget and limited time for preparation. Ideally foods should net over 3000 calories per dollar and require less than 15 minutes of preparation (not including time spent waiting). I'll start:
>Lentils with a sauce made with canola oil/flour thickening and any cheap flavoring (worcestershire, louisana hot sauce, salt, etc)
>Rice
>Bread or tortillas made with canola oil
>Frozen strawberry and banana smoothies, much cheaper than fresh and you won't notice when you blend them anyways.

I'm hungry for something sweet right now and I ran out of yeast, whats a good pastry I can make out of flour, canola oil, sugar, baking soda/powder, and water? Only cookie/cake recipes I know require butter and milk.

>Only cookie/cake recipes I know require butter and milk.
I think cookies will work with vegetable oil if you refrigerate the dough until it firms up before baking. Most instant cake mixes use oil and water too, but also need eggs.

You could do a basic fried dough that gets rolled in sugar after frying. Sometimes a simple sweet porridge is tasty too but that works better with oats or whole wheat flour.

Two 5lb sacks of flour plus two 1lb sacks of dry lentils = over 3800kcal per dollar.
Enjoy.

Rice with fried egg. You could also maybe add seasonings like black pepper and red pepper flakes. Roasted bell peppers on the side for even more flavour.

It might be worth researching what wild edibles grow near you and supplement them with basics for more flavor and nutrients. Many of the weeds we mow or pull from lawns are actually more nutritious than veggies they sell in supermarkets.

Canned fish like sardines or salmon is inexpensive, healthy, and tasty. Not as cheap as lentils and beans, but a 6oz can of salmon is like $3. Sardines are like $1 a can

Red lentil and beetroot soup. Really nutritious and cheap as well.
Polenta oven “fries”. Good as a snack.

Extremely cheap food is SO easy to figure out, yet this thread come up for the millionth time.
Everyone knows about beans and rice. Prices vary, just walk around in the cheapest market in town and buy whats cheap. Are potatoes cheap? Get a sack. Is chicken 59 cents a pound, again? Buy that. Are eggs 49 cents a dozen, again? Buy that. Is there expired meat, bread, veg for a bargain? Buy that.
This isn't difficult you fucking retard.

I eat this dish that I make in large portions when I don’t feel like cooking or going out. It consists of:
>4 beef hot dogs sliced
>1 cup rice
>sliced onion
>frozen mixed veg from a huge bag
>sazon Goya
It’s pretty damn good and you can mix and match ingredients with whatever’s on hand. Dirt cheap and tasty

Poor people can indeed dumpster dive without shame. I dont have a problem with that.
By "expired" I mean its the final day of the "sell by" date. Its not bad yet, its just getting a bit old, and the retailer would rather have 25 cents on the dollar, than nothing at all. So, huge discounts. Perfect for lowest tier people like OP.

You could probably scam at least one meal a day from a church or food kitchen. In some particularly hipster places or near college campuses they have those restaurants where you pay what you can. Just give them $0.50 for a sandwich or bowl of soup. That knocks out one meal and you don't even have to cook it.

Go to discount stores rather than large chains to buy dented canned goods for super cheap. Sometimes industrial named-brand bread bakeries will have outlet stores to sell their overstock and "damaged" goods that they can't send to grocery stores. You can get a few loaves for a couple of bucks and freeze them.

The biggest thing is to just not be a fatass. You'd be amazed about how much money you save with good portion control. You can actually afford more than canned vegetables and cheap ramen if you're not eating like a pig. Measure what you eat and adjust it. You don't need to eat 8oz of meat for every meal. You don't need a whole plate/bowl of veggies with everything. With portion control you can afford to spring for fresher foods.

Buying in bulk is important. Stock up in bulk as often as you can from sales. Once you build a good stock of preserved food it gets a lot easier. Freeze serving sized bags of protein (chicken, beef, etc.). Buy herbs and spices slowly and over time, they last for many servings. It's better to shop for proteins once every two to three weeks and go to market for fresh on sale produce on the weekly.

Oatmeal + raisins, cinnamon, cream, butter, sugar.

Pancakes, cheap syrup heated with butter in the pan.

Stews with potatoes, carrots, and a protein.

Rice, beans, a protein, and a thousand different herbs/spices to try.

Right now they are struggling to sell peanut butter, so that should be cheap. Peanut butter cookies are one to three ingredients. PB, PB + Flour, or PB + Flour and another sugar (chocolate kiss or sugar dusting).

Sauce tomat (one of five mother sauces) e olio

1/4 cup olive oil
7 minced garlic cloves
simmer 1 minute
add in 1 can stewed tomatoes

from there add in herbs, fresh tomatoes, simmer red pepper with the garlic, you do you.

cheap breakfast hash

chop up a potato, bell pepper, and an onion.
sweat onion down for 3 mins in oil
add in bell pepper, stir, simmer for 2 mins
add in potato, stir, and season with dried/fresh herbs, salt, pepper
cook until done

put in bowl, fry eggs, drop eggs right on top.

look up german pancake recipes, add jam

Go to the butcher and buy the fat trimmings, get the cheapest roast or pork cut and make yourself some 60/40 ground meat with a blender. You need to go real light on the blender because it'll burn the motor right fast if you don't. Get some lettuce, onion and tomato, rice or potato and buy some corn oil and vinegar, and get your favorite fresh herb. Make a salad dression from the herb, salt, oil and vinegar, use all the herb and make sure you add enough vinegar and put into a squeezy bottle in the fridge.
Make yourself a delicous salad and serve with the potato or rice, topped with meat.
I OMAD so I guess for you guys that eat more than once a day, you can come up with some derivation of this.
