this

in all seriousness they feel really bad to drink anything out of, the rim is way too thick and inelegant plus it looks dumb. just get a glencairn or a copita glass

>> No.12952002

is it bad for tea too or is the thickness like that of a mug?

>> No.12952016

I don't understand how you can see the thickness of the glass from the side like that without it being blocked in the front by the thicker parts. Am I an idiot?

No, because you were unsure of something so you asked for more information so as to better educate yourself. It's a good trait to question things and seek knowledge.

Simax in the Czech Republic majes double walled insulated glasses with thin rims.
The double walled portion starts about 1/2 an inch below the lip of the cup.
Unlike some manufacturers double walled glasses, the Simax versions are actually durable to a degree.
You can also purchased a modified version made by Simax from Ikea. I think the glasses are about $10 for a pair.

Bodum and some other companies also sell Chinese made versions.
I would avoid these like the plague.
I’ve had double walled Bodum glasses that broke when I dropped ice cubes in them.
Othe thin “blown” Chinese borosilicate glass has also been break prone in my experience.
Thicker stuff has usually been OK.

Basically, stick with Simax from the Czech Republic, Trend-glas/Jena from Germany or Hungary, or maybe Italian USA or Japanese Borosilicate glass.

It’s a double walled glass.
It insulates to an extent.
Multiple companies make them.
The best are probably made by Simax.
You can buy a less expensive version of the Simax double walled cups from Ikea.

The IKEA Avrundad and Simax cups have a thin rim.

The Ikea double walled glasses are meant to go with some other Czech made glass items from Ikea that have somewhat similar designs, like a double walled french press for coffee, and some single walled tea pots with integral stainless tea strainers.
If you prefer straight walled glasses, or some other styles, the original Simax line has those. Ikea just likes having their own proprietary designs in most cases.
Pic is the IKEA Egentlig french press.

Simax also seems to make the traditional wisky glass style.
The main issue in the US is finding the Simax stuff.
Only certain items are routinely sold in the USA, and shipping glasses from Europe is expensive and a bit iffy do to breakage.
