What's /ck/'s opinion on boba?
Personally, I find it rather revolting, and I prefer sago pearls any day

>> No.12947184

i love it, its like a dessert and a drink, I think good tapioca should be really chewy, giving it a better texture than jellies

Not a fan, the texture is kinda weird. I don't usually expect drinks to be so chewy.

Virtue signaling food, literally nothing more than that, shoved down our throats by instagram "influencers" and the university crowd in general

I don't know what that one is but I assume it's from smelly baha men? They won't stop at somalians, they weren't satisfied with letting in MS-13, now it's smelly baha men who want to "let their dogs out" on my lawn. How about no thanks and fix your own problems? First it's some kind of fish soup from a straw, next do I have to learn their pidgin english? Let their kids shit in my living room?

Literally milk tea with a 2-3 dollar markup. I like it but I absolutely fucking hate the hype and culture around it.

Last I saw it was a big thing in 2015-16 but I also haven't been around people much since late 2016. We had one pop up in our 14k pop town, it has since shut down. I'd be surprised if that garbage was still big.

the drink was invented in 1990s taiwan

the initial craze started spreading here in asia around the early 2000s, stores selling cheap low quality bubble tea at $1 per cup..artificial flavours and powdered instant tea, there were stores everywhere, targeted at kids and teens/young adults

then the bubble burst and it died down a bit

afterwards around 2010s it came back as a higher quality/mid market product, quality tea and proper chewy pearls, drinks at $3-$7 each with lots of gimmicks like matcha foamed milk tea, pudding in tea, azuki beans in tea, flavoured pearls etc..

the trend then migrated to america, canada, australia etc where there are lots of asian diaspora and there you have it

the latest craze in the boba tea world is brown sugar syrup + milk

>> No.12947571

>>12947510
the toppings arent *that* sweet, its just a chewy thing for you to munch on in between sips of tea/slushie

asians have a strong fascination with chewy foods, idk
its like cultural ADHD, a fidget spinner for the mouth
even before boba tea it was mochi and rice cakes and kuehs

It's alright but usually insanely priced for what you get and honestly the tapioca balls don't really add much except a weird texture.

does "boba" have those liquid-filled balls too? I drank "bubble tea" which had that together with the "solid" tapioca balls. Is "boba" the same?
