I fly business/first internationally all the time, and as appealing as it was for a couple of years, I’m fucking over it. People like OP still think there are secret special menus and quality food hidden somewhere, but the truth is there is essentially no GOOD food on any airlines: just less bad. For example you can get a delicious looking meal on Emirates or Cathay in first class, but it’s stuff that if you got it on land, you’d barely give it a second look. Frankly, Asian food is modestly better, but only because there are so many stewed items, noodle soups, and cold dishes. Western menus are shit...forget JFK-anywhere in western europe bc you’ll get shit tier “beef” and rope-y chicken breast with steamed cauliflower. Breakfast is the worst.
My advice: get a plat Amex and eat in Centurion clubs on land, and take the instant noodles for your in flight meal. Sleep as much as possible.

Sri Lankan airlines had nice food, strong curry holds up well to the airline prep process, and curry and flatbread for breakfast beats shitty omelettes. Generous with booze too.

Cathay food is pretty good, best part was getting ice cream after the meal.

Vietnam airlines served some surprisingly delicious congee.

Worst by far was China Air, tbf worst all round airline I've flown long haul by a long shot. By a horrible quirk of timing, got served two breakfasts since I got a connecting flight. One was disgusting watery congee, the other was a hellish attempt at eggs and sausage.

Delta has pretty good food. I flew from Atlanta to Munich and back this summer and the meals were tasty and well portioned.
I took an Aer Lingus flight from Chicago to Dublin once and also enjoyed it.
I also randomly got upgraded to first class on a Southwest flight from LA to Hawaii and the meal was good too.
Maybe I’m just easy to please, but I never understood why it’s a meme that airline food is bad? Maybe it was worse in the 90s

>> No.12908275

The only memorable meal I've ever had was on an American Airlines flight in first class. A decent Jambalaya. The worst I've ever had was the "pizza twist" on British Airways last year. Closely matched by the godawful "pastrami and mayo" or whatever it was on Hawaiian last month.

I can go really long times without eating without a problem, so I normally hate airline meals. I feel kinda obligated to eat them while they're there. Just bring me more booze and leave me alone.

I've flown American domestic economy , domestic first class, international economy and international first class as well as JAL international economy and emirates international business class. From those I'd rank them:
1. Emirates business class
Gap
2. American international first class
Bigger gap
3. JAL international economy
4. American domestic first
5. American international economy
Biggest gap
6. American domestic economy

Southwest gets an n/a of course and I can't really remember the couple times I flew delta (to Jamaica in 2004) and continental (Costa Rica in 2009), both economy. My dad worked for American growing up so we were pretty brand loyal. Emirates is pretty fucking great, I heard economy class is even decent.

I love airplane food and I think that most people "hating" it aren't thinking for themselves. Like Nickelback or something else like that. It's just cool to hate it so they pretend to hate it. And most importantly tell everyone else around them just how much they hate it. Never seen a person refuse the meal. But have listened to a hundred childish groans and moans of "ohh my god. Just look at it!" Then they proceed to shove it in their fat mouths.

Most of it is good. Better than microwaved shit and worse than anything freshly made by anyone slightly competent at cooking. Exactly what you'd expect. But really it is the setting that makes me love it. It's a sort of ritual which takes you out of the boredom of flying for a little while.
