Has anyone defeated their childish palate?

I've gotten better but it's still hard for me to eat vegetables on their own(I always mix them with meat) I also hate fruit entirely.

Any tips, especially on how to tolerate fruit?

I can only eat Spinach, Green Beans, Peas, and Carrots on their own as far as vegetables go.

Stop eating processed sugary treats. Also if you don't like fruit there's no hope for your palate

I don't like mainstream candy.

I like very rich sweets and rarely. Like once a month I'll get some cheesecake, fudge, or a canoli.

I used to have a soda addiction though, like 2 liters a day. I drink 1 glass of Hawaiian punch a day now and water the rest. Been st this for months.

Get some fruit that is not from intensive farming, tastes much better.
One you get used to that you can probably get used to average supermarket crap.

All you mentioned is pleb tier childish palate.
Try eating tripe or lard on bread.

This is genuinely good advice depending on where you've grown up and lived
It's unironically likely you've only eaten disgusting watery remnants of fruits if you rely on the budget grocers and don't go to markets whatsoever in most metropolitan areas
Try going to the market and getting some fresh apples from some vendors and ask them for recommendations, or whatever fruits you think you might like. Avoid anything that isn't either grown locally and in-season or is in-season nearby and imported that day (i.e. Mexican produce in California is often better than some local crops)

As far as vegetables go, how are you cooking them? When you say "on their own" do you mean raw/cooked with absolutely nothing? This is pretty normal for picky eaters with frankly dipshit parents who don't force their children to eat them at a young age.
I assume you have some idea of how to cook vegetables though, just know it's pretty normal to need to 'spruce' them up a bit at first to develop your palate. I was just like yourself and cooked Broccoli with a bit of salt and pepper, ground beef, and scrambled eggs kinda mixed together in a pan for two entire years before I ate vegetables on their own. After a while I started doing the broccoli with just eggs, then just a bit of butter in the pan and salt, then just steaming and salting them with some cayenne, then moving on to trying other vegetables similarly.

I hope this doesn't come off overbearing or presumptuous but I was very similar, grew up very sheltered from food. Took me years to get over everything and I still have a couple straight up phobias, but I've managed to become a fairly accomplished cook with time. You'll get there anon

Wouldn’t eat onions brussels sprouts, or beets as a kid. Tried them again and now love all three. Still can’t acquire a taste for liver though, I try now and again, but it still doesn’t taste good.

I was disgusted by fat rinds on meat as a kid. I can enjoy them now sometimes.

>> No.12908090

>>12907972
I'm not disgusted but the texture of most fat veins in meat is still unappetizing to me. I also don't think it has much flavor. Everyone always says that's where the flavor is but I just don't taste it. I trim my meat once it's cooked (or before, depending on cooking method). Fat keeps it juicy while it cooks but I just can't get passed the chewy, shitty texture.

i used to be super sensitive to texture and stuff, but i trained myself to like more foods because its the only thing my family would ever talk about when i ate with them

I learned to trim the fat off, then cut it small, and eat in small bits with the trimmed meat. Don’t even notice it now, but try not to eat a huge blob of fat with no meat attached.

All "childish palate" means is still being able to taste enough to be bothered by the imposition of strong flavors on your tongue.
Just take up smoking if you still have that problem. I smoke constantly and no foods bother me much any more in terms of flavor at least because I can only taste anything at all now if I pour a massive pile of salt or soy sauce on it.

I eat fish and shellfish, I've tried fried octopus and will only eat it fried if I must to keep appearances with my cousin who loves ordering octopus and making me try it, will not under any circumstances eat bivalves such as clambs and cloysters.

Buy better fruits and vegetables. That means going to farm stands or farmers markets. The difference between a soft ripe peach picked off the tree this morning and a firm peach picked a week ago before it's ripe so it won't bruise in transit is night and day. Same goes for all your berries. Shits actually better than candy. I don't fuck with fruit unless it's picked super ripe. Store bought fruit is a waste of time and money. As for veggies sauteeing in good olive oil and seasoning with a pinch of salt and some fresh ground spices and a bit of herbs is God tier. I began life as the toddler who only ate the blandest foods like chicken breast and plain mashed potatoes. Now I eat everything from offal to arugala.

This isn't a fucking video game. You don't need a walkthrough. There's no cheat code to start liking things you don't like, you just need to stop being a pussy bitch and acquire the discipline to do the things that are good for you.

Mostly! I have issues with the textures of a few vegetables still. I’m an aspie (yep rain the “haha autist”s on), but as I’ve honed my culinary skills and gotten more and more into cooking and food I’ve grown a lot more adventurous with what I like and what I incorporate into my dishes.

The key is to find value in the flavor of something, I think. I love the flavor of pickles, but can’t stand the texture.

I’ve taken so many pickles, jalapeños, etc. off so many dishes, but learned to love them through the lingering flavor they left, and finally realized the dish isn’t complete without them. It’s been a weird journey, but I’ve learned the value of so many veggies through it.

Tips for tolerating they way they feel:
-DICE THEM/THINLY SLICE THEM. I can stand so many more veggies when the full flavor of them is there, but they’re finely enough chopped that the feeling of biting into a rubbery, eyeball like skin isn’t there anymore.
-COOK THEM. I hate raw onions, but cooked onions, especially caramelized ones, are incredible and don’t have that bouncy, horrible texture.
-INCORPORATE IT. I’ve learned to love lettuce by incorporating it into wraps or salads with other flavors and textures, and it’s actually become something I really love as a cool, crisp counterpart to some crunchy sunflower kernels or grilled chicken.

Hope you do well, OP! I feel like you’ll be able to beat it if you keep going and stay passionate about cooking! I’m so much healthier and my dishes have such a greater depth of flavor by learning to love fruits and vegetables in different ways!

(Also, on fruit: Just find ones you love! Keep trying different ones! There’s a variety of exotic ones I love like Monstera Deliciosa, mangosteens, cherimoyas, just get creative! Western fruit is usually pretty lame, and exotic ones are sweet and juicy and sometimes even creamy! And try to stay away from the ones that feel like you’re biting into an eyeball kek)

I was lucky that my parents had a "eat it or get nothing approach" so by the age of about 12 I learned to appreciate basically all food.
Just keep eating it. Apparently you like any food after eating it about 150-200 times. I'm childhood it's closer to 30. Also don't focus on what you think about the food, just on the taste and texture. "it's gross" is not a logical thought, don't let it enter your brain.

Same. I'll probably never get over it but I still eat them all. I just chew and swallow them with water.
