Micro-plane grater

Great for ginger, garlic, nutmeg, shallots and onions. I haven't tried it with mine but I suppose you could finely grate some parmigiano with this too. Nice kitchen gadget to have for cheap, and essential if you ever cook Asian dishes, since many of them call for fresh, grated ginger.

>> No.12882704

>>12882667
A high-quality enameled Dutch oven like a Le Creuset won't have chipping issues in the first place. Additionally the enamel being white means you can actually monitor the browning of food and butter, and the enamel allows for cooking acidic foods that would otherwise draw a metallic flavor from the oxidizing iron.

The Graty is a shitty kitchen gadget that only does one job, while a standard box grater could do the same shit plus lots of other things. It's generally a good idea for each kitchen tool to have multiple uses, so as to maximize kitchen storage space.

Thought of another gadget: stainless steel mixing bowls. In addition to mixing, they're great for holding onto diced veggies that would otherwise clutter your cutting board while you prep ingredients. Excellent for serving popcorn as well. I use a smaller one as a countertop rubbish bin for vegetable stems and meat trimmings while I'm cooking, as opposed to having the garbage can next to me while I cook.

but the biggest reason why enameled cast iron is crap is because it lacks the feet needed to use it over a campfire, which is the whole point of having a dutch oven in the first place. cooking inside is for urbans and women.
