12775405 No.12775405 [Reply] [Original]

Is there a proper way to cook/broil/bake/fry gator?
I recently purchased a lb of gator meat and I want to know how to do this sjit but all the recipes online have 1-2 star quality.
Please any southern boys here have a recipe they can share and cooking directions if possible?

Same way you would cook chicken.
Can put it into gumbo or cut into cubes batter and fry it.

Honestly the reason all the recipes have 1-2 stars is because gator is garbage meat. Way too chewy and no real flavor. The recipes are probably okay, it's just the meat itself

No it isn't awful it tastes like what you think it would taste like. A reptilian chicken. I get gator taco's once in a while down here in south florida.

Pretty much. It's a little fishy, a little chickeny. The taste s fine, but the rubbery texture isn't great. It's fun as a novelty, but I wasn't personally big on it. I'm sure there's good things you can do with it.

>> No.12777475

>>12775405
I wish I could contribute more, but this thread is accurate; inherently gator has poor texture and a slightly catfish/reptile/chicken taste. Deep fry it because that is basically the only way to really eat it. I had a friend in NOLA who tried once to make it the centerpiece in a gumbo and another time attempted to serve a thigh cut as a steak of sort; it didn't work.

Gator meat is tasty but it needs some consideration.
When making gator nuggets, soak the meat in low fat buttermilk, or full fat buttermilk diluted with some water to make it liquidy. You could use plain milk in a pinch.
It helps with the texture and flavor both.

No he really contracted it for sure. Perfectly symptomatic and I doubt the guy even bothered to cook it properly. Armadillos are positively infested with disease and the only practical way to prepare one (like if you literally have nothing else to eat) is to absolutely fire bomb the damn thing. If you've ever seen one eaten on a cooking show it's extremely unlikely that it was wild or else that host is very dumb or outright nuts eating it.

That's according to like, Islam and Judaism, and parts of Christianity. You definitely shouldn't primarily on the basis that disease communication is going to be more prevalent with something more similar to you than a turnip.
