I wouldn't consider Bojangles to be a "local chain", I'd consider it to be a "regional chain".

up here in WA it seems like Taco Time is struggling. when I visited my cousins in Portland as a kid we'd always stop by Flying Pie Pizzeria and it was my favorite place in the world, I know there was at least a couple of em. I hope they're still around

Peculiar to the the East Bay in Cali are two competing Hot Dog chains that split apart sometime in the 50's with one side adopting the same name with a slightly different spelling.
The dogs are good with a snappy natural casing and are steamed.
I also recommend the tamale it's a 50's style saucy, goopy, mess, that is also steamed & has no resemblence to an actual tamale.

Duchess is exclusively in CT. There are about 14 locations, I think.
When I was a kid, the one near me always had arcade cabinets. I'll never forget reading a gaming magazine that had a big feature on X-men: Children of the Atom and then going to Duchess that night to find the brand new cab there.
