Personally I always do my chili with at least 3 types of beans, at least 1 or 2 cans of sweet corn, some lima beans, whatever extra squash or zucchini I have from the garden, also hot peppers (roasted jalapenos or ancho add some awesome spice). Served over some rice, you've got a nice filling meal.

Beans are a filler food, back when times were tough and meat was expensive. Nowadays, you can go Costco or something and get 5 pounds of ground beef for something like 10-15 dollars, so why limit yourself rather than just cut loose and make your whole meal out of meat?

If the cowboys of the time had the choice of "all meat" versus "beans", they'd choose the "all meat" every time. Since I'm not a cowboy, and since I'm not living in the 1800's, I'd rather just pay a few extra bucks to go for the "all meat" option too.

>I don't understand the whole 'no beans' in chili thing. Is it the same kind of meme as 'no pineapples' on pizza?
No. Some people don't like pineapple on pizza because they think it makes the bready soggy or because they have some weird problem with combining sweet and savory flavors in one dish.
Beans don't belong in chili because they're a waste of space filler ingredient.
You wouldn't be able to taste beans in chili if you did chili right since the entire point of chili is to make it as strong and flavorful as possible.
You also miss out on 3 times the protein, get fewer calories, and add unnecessary GI irritation with oligosaccharide and indigestible plant matter like lingin and cellulose.
It's just bad all around. Only somewhat reasonable argument for beans I've heard to date is that they add "texture," although I have no idea why you would be particularly fond of bean texture. To the extent you could notice it through the super-hot chili bean texture is basically just a slightly waxy consistency.
>>12741368
It's not IBS to get GI symptoms from a known GI irritant. That's like saying you have a skin disease because your skin gets damaged if someone pours sulfuric acid on it.
Meat doesn't cause these problems. Only way you can coke close to the same issues with meat is if you don't cook it and catch some bacterial infection from it.
