My grocery store never “knows” when it will get prime ribeye. So, I’m at the mercy of whatever is in stock. I got prime ny strip this week because I had that steak craving. It wasn’t satisfying at all.
Don’t waste your money on ny strip. Go out of your way to get ribeye or just don’t bother getting steak because you’ll be disappointed with anything else.

depends on the size of the filet.

According to official USDA guidelines for steaks, a T-bone's Filet portion is less than 1.25" thick, but the filet portion must be thicker than 0.25" (or else it's classified as a bone-in NY strip)

A porterhouse's filet portion is at LEAST 1.25" thick, and is generally taken from rear of the shortloin where the tenderloin is at it's thickest.


A T-bone generally just has enough filet for ~3-4oz portion, maybe a bit more.
A Porterhouse generally has enough filet for a 6-12oz portion.
