Going to Montreal for the weekend... what should I get to eat? Poutine? Bagels?

Go to smaller restaurants that seem local, get smoked meat. Poutine is actually fairly shit desu, try it if you never have but dont be shocked at its mediocrity.

Depends. What's your budget?

The bagels are stupidly overrated. You can get better ones at US chains like Bruegger's. I don't like poutine either. I had some outstanding Indian food at some place in a basement on St Denis.

Going on a bachelor party so I don't think we'll be doing many fancy dinners, but cost isn't a problem for us.

I like poutine.

I'm from Philly and we have some Montreal bagel shops here but I prefer the regular kind.

The strip clubs are fun. Way better than in the states but not as good as Mexico.

Au pied De Cochon,
>Butcher shop/Restaurant where we serve you just about every part of the pig. You're supposed to be 3-5 to eat there, because even then you'll have Leftovers.
The Pig leg is an overall decent choice.

Schwartz
>Internationally renowned Smoke meat house. Ask for a plate of smoke meat w/ Pickles on the side, and pick up the Cherry coke for the full Shwartz experience

The Ermitage
>Russian restaurant. Never been there but the food is good apparently.

Dragon rouge
>Themed inn where you're served Medieval style food. The portions are generous, and the beer is great. There's a plate called 'Gargantua's Plate' Where you're given 2 hours to finish a Giant burger and all that goes with it. If you finish it alone (or with 2 person), the meal's free and you get free fries whenever you show up.

>ethnic restaurants
Montreal's a mosaic of ethnic districts, so if you want great gyros, head to the middle of little greece and look around.

>Generally good food
Plateau mont royal. Just go down the streets and pick your desire.

>"Im homesick for 'Merica"
Head to Joe beef.

These are excellent suggestions. I would also include La Banquise, La Belle Provence and Le Roi Du Smoked Meat. Go to Chenoys for a hangover breakfast.

Get an epic Montreal smoked meat sandwich from a deli like Schwartz's Deli

The only bagels worth eating are from the NY area.
