It's not just bowl volume. The angle of the pattern and shape of the bowl are superior. European soup spoons are only useful for slurping and you can't get a lip seal on them because they are too shallow, you can lock onto the chinese spoons with your lower lip and really suck it down without risk of dribbling.

my ex was asian and when we moved in together i discovered these. at first I thought what the fuck, but after using them I prefer them to the weak ass western spoon. what are you even supposed to do with a western spoon, like it's great for spilling shit off the sides of it since it's very nearly flat and barely picks anything up at all. this asian spoon is PERFECT for cereal and anything with bits of food in it, and even if it's 100% liquid you get a decent portion of it while not needing to waste time fucking fighting with gravity to account for shitty design.
