Hey boys, do you use pressure cookers? Thinking of getting one - anyone have any experience/reviews with them?

I got an instantpot and I use it probably 3-4 times a week.
I use it for yogurt, beans, rice, lentils, amaranth. Haven't cooked meat in mine yet, seems like a bitch thing to do.

Yes, just buy a dedicated one and not the memepot.

make sure to splash the rim of the pot with water so the seal glides on easily as you close the lid on it.

I don't have one as advanced as that one, but anyway I find it very handy, mostly for when you want to get something done fast.

Example, potatoes, there are some many great recipes that basically say "cook them and then the real preparation starts", and potatoes take so damn long, so you use the pressure cooker, 6 minutes and they are done for the one I use.

Maybe I am not using it at its full potential but is very useful as it is for me.

It's really good at slow cooking meat really fast.

I use my instant pot mainly for rice and lentils. I made one “complete meal” with chicken and it looked like absolute dog shit, I didn’t even eat it. I made instant pot gumbo and jambalaya and they turned out well. My friend frequently makes vegan curries in it

I’m going to try this

I dont have one electric, my is old school.

I use to cook beans and tougher meats. but aftering opening the liquid (wait for the pressure ends) I still cook for at least more 10-20 minutes, to reduce the broth or the sauce depending on the recipe

Go for it man! I make it every week on Tuesday because I am exhausted from research meetings all day, and it's stupid easy to make. It's also pretty cheap and will yield a lot of leftovers.
>about 1lb frozen meatballs $5
>1lb penne pasta $0.75
>1 can of pasta sauce $2
Dinner and lunch for three days? priceless.
The amount of water depends on your elevation. I am at sea level, so if you're not, then you might want to add a little more just in case.

I make mac and cheese with it. Sometimes the noodles are still crunchy, but if I let it sit on warm for 10 minutes after the initial cooking, it is good. Probably doing something wrong but fuck it.

I got an instapot a couple years back as a gift and it's fine, but I only really use it as a rice cooker because it frees up space from the stove. It's OK, but honestly a crockpot is a much better specialized tool to take up counter space. I don't find that this thing cooks rice significantly faster than I would on the stove, but I still use it frequently.

Also every recipe I find online that uses this thing is typically off by quite a bit.

I have a pressure cooker that hasn't been removed from the box 4 years after purchase. Every time I think it could be of use, I realize how much effort it would take to unpack it and read the manual. I mean, I have a stove, and I have a rice cooker (which does slow cooking and steaming), so tuning normal recipes for high-pressure cooking seems pointless.

I only use it for beans, but I really like making them in a pressure cooker. It's fast, doesnt require soaking, usually, and is cheaper than canned beans.
