au gratin potatoes with a twist ,
5 large sliced potatoes ,
20 large mushrooms diced
50 or so mini meat balls , seasoned with garlic, dried onion flakes , paprika,
pepper ,parsley and precooked.
Béchamel sauce
then cheese as a topping.
layer the bottom with sliced potatoes two thick
then put the meat balls in the béchamel and stir gently until evenly coated , pour over first layer of potatoes, then add remaining potatoes covering meatballs , press down gently to remove air spaces, sprinkle 2 cups of preferred cheese on top and bake for 45 minutes at 400 degree's

waiting for it to cool enough to plate .
then I will post that pic .

Oh no man. No. Fuck no.
Gratin dauphinois isn't something you can't just add meatballs, mushrooms and any random spice lying around your kitchen to. And the cheese. You have to use a reasonable amount of good cheese on top of the first bechamel layer, not mix up potatoes with bechamel randomly like you're trying to hide them in the dumpster and then empty a garbage truck of multiple types of shredded american-flavour cheddar style pastes on top.
That's revolting.

>> No.12531875

>>12531740
Seriously? That's some fucked up reasoning. You took the name of a classic potato dish and tried to apply it to a mishmash of crap. If you were trying to get better, you'd learn to perfect classic potatoes au gratin first, and then adjust and experiment once you knew proper technique.

also , something I should have mentioned in the original post is I did boil the sliced potato pieces for about 10 minutes then drain and let them drain in a colander before stacking them in the baking dish. and I think a little less cream and butter , or I might use mozzarella cheese , I was surprised at the amount of gravy that was produced , even thought the potatos did absorb it later on,
cooking is experimentation with different idea's to see what will taste good ..

sure , here

2 Cups Warm Whole milk ( about 110 or so degrees)
1/2 Cup melted Butter
1/2 Cup Granulated sugar
mix this together until combined
then Add either one packet or 3/4 Table spoon of dry yeast ( I used fleischmann's instant dry yeast, I just sprinkled it on top and let it get happy )
after about two or three mins ADD
4 Cups or flour SPOONED and LEVELED----
NOT scooped and packed

gently fold in until even mixed----
then Cover and put in warm place for an Hour----

in a separate bowl ADD-----
1 teaspoon baking power
2 teaspoons salt --- (UNLESS you are using salted butter , then just one teaspoon)
3/4 cup flour
mix these together and sprinkle about 1/2 on the dough ball and the other 1/2 on the work space
then fold and dump ------ work into a ball
then roll out into a 14 by 20 flat , it will be about an 1 inch thick-----
3/4 cup of really soft butter , BUT NOT MELTED , --- spread this like plaster on it
3/4 cup brown sugar evenly spread on top
2 Table Spoons of Cinnamon evenly spread over it-------

ROLL into a Log (snug But NOT MASHED together )
Wet the Edge with a bit of milk and pinch together .and roll the seam to the bottom
Cut into 1 1/2 inch rounds----- ( I would run the knife under hot water every three slices it cuts better without dragging the dough)
Crowd into what ever dish you want to use
cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
BAKE at 350 degree's for about 25 to 30 minutes..

icing for the Rolls ----
1 cup powered suger
1/4 cup melted butter
two tablespoon milk
mix until combined Drizzle over rolls
let them cool a bit , serve with tea or coffee
