Why does lamb trigger Americans?

The sheep-cattle wars. We have abundant land so instead of small scale sheep farming we do large scale cattle farming. Less lamb is around hence the preference for, and familiarity with, beef

It's still somewhat popular at Easter where I live

>> No.12434435

I love lamb, though normally its a bit to pricey to justify purchasing. And also seems to only come in larger portions, and me obviously being a single loser don't need a full leg of lamb for dinner.

the minor UK-US diplomatic incident was because a former US ambassador was served lamb at every dinner party he went to because in the UK lamb is seen as a meat for special occasions more so than everyday beef. everyone feeding him wanted to be good hosts and show off a bit and this poor bloke just wanted a burger or steak

This. I picked up a pork shoulder picnic for 5$ two weeks ago. Lamb would have cost two-three times as much for 4 to 12 times less meat.

I only eat it when I'm either at a churascarria (which offers both leg and rack) or the one 3 week business trip I took to India. Probably because the pig was grown in a concrete cell on grains whereas lamb in the US may be imported from a free range station all the way in Wales, Australia or New Zealand, or perhaps the cheaper stuff is coming from some niche American farms that finish them on grains.

Funny that the Queen serves it up and yet so many US posters seem to associate it with ethnic food.

>>12434854
I believe in the US you would have to look for "prime" or "choice" lamb to have better luck getting something that was actually sent to the works when it was still a lamb by age and not just one of the biggest in the flock that was rounded up when the order was filled.
