Also in a density matter, okanagan, Napa valley and pretty much all of Chile make some of the best grapes.

Now kindly go away.

Ice wine is made quite frequently in the Okanagan as well. Further, Canada has laws stating that only grapes naturally frozen on the vine can be used to make wine that is labelled icewine.

However, you are right that the Okanagan makes some pretty excellent table wine as well. It's still pretty young as a region and finding its identity if you will, but it makes very good dry Riesling, pinot noir, unoaked chardonnay, and Rhone style syrah.

>>12304954
To be fair, America does make a TON of extremely shitty overoaked/highly adulterated wine with no varietal character. For good reason: the American more is better mentality. Why make a little wine when you can make a lot? Why make something balanced and restrained when jacking up the fruit and alcohol might get you a higher Parker score?

By the time you get to the winemakers in California who are actually making great wine the cost per bottle is insane because they lose out on economies of scale and have to pass the cost on to the consumer. So even when California wine is actually good France, Italy and Spain easily beat it dollar for dollar.

I'm gonna be honest with you lads. I have never in my life had a wine that I thought tasted good and I must have had several hundred at this point. My wife has always enjoyed going to wine tastings so I go to humor her. No matter what I've had I have never tried one and thought "yes, I would like to have more of this". All of it sucks. Alcohol in general sucks. I'll drink it for the effects but not for the taste. Beer sucks, wine sucks, liquor sucks, liqueur sucks. If there were alcohol capsules I would simply take those instead of drinking.

>WHY is this bait thread still here?
Not a bait thread, a wine thread. I'm of the opinion a bit of banter like the OP is fine but these threads are invariably dogshit start to finish. Why? Sure winefags have some problems with the same bunch of faggots spamming le ben teller, le judgement of paris, but they themselves put in a whole lot of effort to make sure their own threads are completely irredeemable. Go on /int/ and look at what countries are the most shamelessly open about their absolute seething butthurt about other countries. Go on /his/ and look at the the ringer-ravaged /int/nigger threads that leak from /int/ onto special interest boards. Consider the crossover between countries with inhabitants that have no shame in openly displaying their bleeding sphincters to all, and who leak their impotent rage onto other boards, and who produce and consume a lot of wine and you'll get to the bottom of why these threads are invariably total write-offs.

All of the nationalism butthhurt is coming from flyovers who don’t care about wine though. Notice how they always bring up France because it would never occur to them that other parts of the US produce wine. But from there it immediately becomes a train wreck because they’re desperate to find an ugly stereotype to reference. That is how ignorant inbreds from flyover land respond to stuff they aren’t familiar with. Anger and random hostility. Don’t blame the wine drinkers for this.

It sounds like Virginia is in the leading pack with wine, but not quite at pole position yet. Spurrier lends a complimentary take in a 2013 Chicago Tribune article:
>More importantly, Virginia wines are surprising critics, winning awards and fans across the globe. World-renowned U.K. based wine critic Steven Spurrier characterized Virginia as a “national contender, producing wines of bright fresh character that call for a second glass.” In blind tastings the wines consistently beat out candidates from other parts of the globe.

I live in Socal

Can you reccomend me a sweetish-fruity red wine?
Ports are too sweet for my taste, they told me Pinot's are the most ''fruit aromatic'' but I always feel they are dry and full of tannin (even though shit like chianti etc is worse)

Is there a more fruity/floral a bit sweetish less dry/tannin red wine than pinot?

Some german/alsacian producers make a light, lower-extraction, higher sugar, lower-alcohol version of pinot noir. I am not sure what you mean by "tannin" as the term is thrown around without a lot of precision. Fruit tannins come from longer skin contact (california style) and whole-cluster methods (more popular as you get into real PN and not mass-market stuff). Wood tannins obviously come from wood, you'll get more of those with new oak, which is the overwhelmingly preferred style in california. In california the two will go together - high extraction AND high oak.

You could try the lighter kraut PNs but they're not super common in the US let alone california which has its head up its own ass. And they may not be as fruity and off-dry as you're looking for. I think what you really want is some of the unfashionable local reds made in italy and surrounding areas. Trollinger (local name for schiava) might be ideal as it is often made in a light semi-sweet style for local consumption but good luck finding that in california as it is not a prestigious wine. And if you ask for a wine in that style they'll point you to Boone's Farm because, like I said, californians have their heads up their own asses.
