How tf can a meal be this cheap? It shoudn't be possible

>> No.12230428

Because it’s not meant for human consumption.

The original Chef Boyardees were meant to be most bang for your buck nutritional canned food. Literally, that's what he had in mind. Even if it isn't as good now, it doesn't surprise me that the beef ravioli can still be eaten cold out of the can. I like to keep a couple around for comfort food if I feel miserable or sick.

>>12230428
Be careful not to slip on that pedestal, it's a long ways down.

meat is like 2% of the product. check the ingredients. mostly wheat and starch as filler.

>The original Chef Boyardees were meant to be most bang for your buck nutritional canned food. Literally, that's what he had in mind.

Well, yeah...except no. Not really. The "original" original Chef Boyardee's was just Ettore Boiardi putting his sauce in whatever jar or bottle he could find to accommodate customers at his restaurant, who wanted to take it home to serve to their friends because they really liked his cheese infused tomato sauce. "Ah, si, si," he'd say, "I-a sell-a you dis-a sauce, and-a you tell-a dem to come-a to Il Giardino d'Italia, if-a dey want some more. Best-a sauce for dee pasta, tell-a ev-ery-bodeh." *hand-rubbing intensifies*. Just used his patrons as a vector of free advertising. But they liked his food, so you can't really say he exploited anyone.

By '29 when they went into real mass production, the low cost/high caloric content was a selling point, to be sure. It was the Great Depression. But it hadn't been his original angle or anything. Just he had the groundwork laid to produce and sell a bunch of calorie dense canned food at low cost, and that was needed. "Ah, si, si, I got-a dee spaghetti, is very good, will feed-a dee family, very good food". *hand-rubbing yet again intensifies*. Then WWII came around, and he had this good manufacturing base set up, and the Army needed a lot of non-perishable food, so he rolled with that. "Ah, si, si, I got-a dee good Italian spaghetti, is very good to feed the Army soldato, to beat-a dee Italian, and-a fuck-a dee Italians. Except-a me, I'mma one of dee good ones, buy-a me canned spaghetti in-a bulk-a, and we beat-a dee Italians." *Hand-rubbing still intensifies.*

Nigger had no over-arching goal, he was just a self-promoter, opportunist, and lucky bastard who made good through fortunate circumstances. There was nothing principled or altruistic in his actions, he was just good at blending parmesan cheese into tomato sauce, and wanted to get paid for it.

A pure, culinary mercenary. And God bless him for it, I've been eating Chef Boyardee since I could form memories and I got 24 cans of their food on deck for hurricane season or SHTF. He didn't need to be a hero, he was a cook, and he fucking cooked. His fame as a Chef will resound as long as our culture exists. Good on him.

Not him but you may have a point. I'm 37 and do love Chef Boyardee but can't eat that shit everyday. Like the taste but all that sodium or whatever really fucks with me. I think I got used to it as a kid, I hated eating meat and wanted fast food all the time.

Chef boyardee is in MREs. It is definitely safe to eat.

>> No.12232431

Pasta and tomatoes are hella cheap. As cheap as chef boyardee is, you could make it from scratch for even less.
