What's worse, my zoomie gf refuses to use gas stoves because they are "dangerous" and "scary"
Does your SO refuse to use one cooking accessory or the other for some crazy reason too?

And what can I do to change that?

More importantly what in the living hell is wrong with zoomies?

Is this another thread where some old, decaying 30 year old refuse to understand the views of others, and seek reassurance from their fellow fossils? As far as I'm aware, her fear of open flames have nothing to do with the generation she was born into. I honestly cannot wait till the day I am able to spit in the graves of Millennials, they have the entitlement and mindset of Boomers without any of the numbers to back them up culturally and economically, and as a result is responsible for the rise in progressivism and the demand for mollycoddling in our society.

What other methods of heating up food that didn't involve a flame either directly or indirectly were there? I don't use electric stoves myself, but I understand that people who prefer a seemingly safer method will use it.

There's a clear pattern where every other generation will always be culturally worse than the generations before and after it. The Lost Generation lived a luxurious life in the 20s and left nothing but economic stagnation and poverty for the Greatest Generation, who grew up during the Great Depression and fought in World War 2. The Silent Generation which came after were very insignificant, which is the only exception to the rule, however the Boomers then came along and with their strength in numbers, introduced progressivism and all sorts of societal illnesses to the west, sexual promiscuity became the norm and life became easy for them as the economy also shifted in their favour. College costs coincidentally increased rapidly after most of the Boomers had graduated. If that wasn't enough to prove that Boomers are a parasite on society, it's the same Boomers who eventually took positions of power in the education system to indoctrinate the Millennial generation who would have been old enough to go to college by the time Boomers became professors. Boomers ruined the economy and who gets to carry the burden? Generation X, they were relatively reasonable compared to the cancerous generation that followed - the Millennials. The attitude that the Boomers left behind were adopted by the Millennials, the same sense of entitlement, the same levels of promiscuity, the same sense of superiority to the following generation. It's too bad that the Millennials were neutered by the Boomers, who had introduced the norm of having fewer children and leaving childcare to third parties in pursuit of second jobs during a poor economy to the Gen X'ers, because the Millennials don't have the numbers to back up their pathetic mindset, and they (along with Boomers) will be remembered as the generations that nearly destroyed western society, only barely saved by Generation Z.

There's a lot of shit here, so the only thing I'll say is that I've seen no empirical, non-anecdotal evidence that any of the generational stereotypes are true.

Motherfucker listen. I had to do road trips for my company, that was so fucking cheap, that they never reimbursed me for meals while I was 400 miles from home... I wised the fuck up, and bought one of those things, as well as a compatible pot and pan, and a rice cooker / steamer, and believe me when I say, dick face, those things are a god damn life saver. I probably saved about $8000 in a year of traveling with one of those fucking things in my suitcase. I'd like to punch you in the face for having such a pussy life.

Honestly, unless you're doing something that requires very precise temperature control these things are fine - assuming you have a quality set of cookware (copper bases are essential)

The house I'm in currently has no kitchen facilities at all (it was from a time when cooking was done over the kitchen fireplace which is broken now, and the kitchen was never modernized and no natural gas connection) so I have to use one of these induction cook tops and it works pretty well.

Yea, my wife flatout refuses to have anything gas operated in the house, for fear of it breaking and causing an explosion.

>And what can I do to change that?
Not much, if you want to keep her. That is mostly an irrational fear, rational arguments won't help (and believe me, I've tried).

Get an induction range - they're really the next best thing. Yes, I know, the heat isn't gone just as fast as turning off a gas flame, but they're way better than a classic or ceran range.

>> No.12212652

Biggest problem with induction (and I like induction) is that most cooktops for home use cant be turned down enough for something resembling a simmer. 400W is the usually the lowest seting, 300W if you are lucky. That is still way too high for a simmer, even with a one gallon pot full of potatoes. The only portable inducction top with a low enough setting (100W) is th IKEA Tillreda. It has got really respnsive toich controls too, and a timer. It doesnt haave temperature regulation though, I really miss that function. It works so great for keeping tea, coffee or soups and stews warm. YOu can even use it for a poor man's sous vide device. if you have enough money and space I'd seriously consider getting a Tilreda and another cheap induction top with temperature function.

just explain to her why gas isn't dangerous it's low pressure, has a pilot light for leaks, etc), teach her how to light it easily, and then cook something on it with her. she'll need to figure out how it's different from electric stoves- the sides of the pan heat up, it's hotter, etc.

women are like children anon. You shouldn't be mad at them for not understanding things. Just teach them in a fun and nice way.

If the power goes out (earthquake, storm, fire, city forgot to pay the bills, whatever) the electric stove won't work. Gas, on the other hand, should work regardless of power outage, and can be lit with a match, meaning you don't have to worry about being stuck with cold shit. Unless, of course, the gas line itself is damaged, and in that situation the power is probably already down anyway.

In other words, gas stoves are just more reliable.
