Because homeless and mentally ill people hang out in fast food restaurants for hours at a time, taking up space and scaring off normal customers. Especially when they talk to themselves or approach people to beg for change. They're never going to ask a normal person to leave but the sign is there so they have the option to exercise it when they need to kick some one eyed crusty hobo out.

I come from a small white trash town where high schoolers have nothing better to do than sit around at a convenience store that offers fast food for hours on end (Sheetz, for anyone in PA, VA, WV, OH, MD, or SC whos familiar with the chain), so i understand the need for these signs.

It's only really necessary during peak hours.
Unless customers are lining up i'd rather have a full restaurant.

The DD in my town is this weird boomer drama turf war. Its always packed with old people in the exact same spots every day. I usually just get shit to go, but one day I sat at a table to wait for a friend to pick me up and some old biddy came over and told me "that's bobby's spot" to which I replied with a sincere "huh?"

I'm at tireman getting new tires on my truck and I've had to sit surrounded by boomers for an hour and a half. It's been hell. They are grumpy, impatient, blast their goddamn Candy crush game full blast, and the boomer women are the absolute worst. They can't sit still in peace and quiet for more than 5 minutes. I've never hated boomers more than I do right now.

15 years ago when I was in high school, Wawa was the place to be. Hang out outside with a coffee, run into some friends on their way to a party, jackpot! It really still applies as an adult. But instead of looking for friends there it's more like awkwardly running into those same friends from high school 15yrs later to find out about their stints in rehab and all their kids they aren't allowed to see anymore.
