>thick burgers
fucking terrible texturally, awkward to eat, cook through wrong.
How do people still make this simple mistake?
If you want a thick hamburger experience, make a fucking meatloaf instead of burgers, patties should be at MAXIMUM a half inch thick.
My wife makes thick burgers and I want to kick her in her cunt.

For me, it's something in between that giant meatball with buns and the paper thin shit they serve and most fast food joints. The meatball is awkward to eat, yes, but if you get the size just right, it traps the fat better than a totally flat patty so it's always juicy and not dry.

Agree 100% OP. 90% of burgers you buy at pubs are like this and it’s completely shit. Put two or three thin patties on. Million times better and you can put cheese between each one if you’re really fat.

No shit. Burgers should be thin, and if you want more food, you stack patties.

Burgers are also best when they have a crispness to the outside

In my personal experience and view, only Smashburger gets smashburgers right. Places like In-N-Out, Steak n Shake and Shake Shack still make it too dry. Or at the very least, they're hit and miss. It's not easy to get that right, and wagies are lazy. So it kinda sucks if you ask me.

A slice of meatloaf will give you your inch slab of ground beef, but not all fucked up.

I don't like thick patties much either but it sounds like you just suck at making burgers.

I still don't understand how you're supposed to eat this. If you squeeze it all the juice pours out onto the plate. Whose mouth is that big?

The point of a thick burger is that it is moist and juicy.
You're a shit cook if you manage to dry out such a thick slab of beef.

It's not a fucking coincidence, thin patties only.

You just haven't eaten a good one. The absolute best burgers I've eaten were thick. Maybe not meatball thick, but thick. But admittedly, they were few and far between.

That's probably because they cook it the entire time on higher heat instead of searing and finishing in a low oven or something. It's possible to make a juicy and not shitty thick burger, but if it's too thick it'll still be unpleasant to eat because you can't just bite into the whole thing easily.

I had to go elsewhere to find a resolution that would actually show me texture, and I'll concede that Ramsay has made a juicy burger.
Basted.
With egg folded in.

It's good because it's a tiny little meatloaf.
It would be more enjoyable to eat with no bun and a knife and fork.

This.
The proper way to make a burger more meaty is to make it a double or triple.
Giant meat balls are gross and have weird texture.
