Quick question, just how much better than Bulleit is Woodford reserve? Is it worth the extra dollars?

>inb4 stupid to make a thread over a question so small
I wont apologize, there are currently 3+ threads shilling that stupid ugly slag with gray hair from bon appetit, we ought to do anything to kill those threads

>> No.11994198

Never had Woodford but Bulleit is just really smooth corn juice.
If this is what bourbon has to offer then I will stick to rye.

>> No.11994203

I prefer Memer's Meme over both. Woodford has the best bottle though and that's what matters the most imo.

What's general opinion on Nikka if you ever had one?

I like it, it's supposed to be stronger (51.4%) but it doesn't taste that sharp, i like the aroma which is really mokka like.

I don't buy whiskey very often because I'm an alcoholic and not exactly loaded, but I thought Bulleit is supposed to be higher tier than Woodford Reserve. I haven't had Bulleit in awhile, but I picked up a bottle of WR last month which I've been sipping on and really enjoying. Isn't Bulleit like twice the price?

not a fan of the taste of Woodford.
Bulleit used to be my go to drink when it was ~$20 a bottle. i lost interest a few years ago when it was suddenly inflated to ~$25.00, though it's not a a bad drink

for a ~$20 bottle, i have to recommend Four Roses, though it does have a bit of a bite to it. currently $17.99 here in the Granite State

when i can find it, i like Eagle Rare, though it's usually around $30 a bottle

What's a good bourbon that a scotch drinker can appreciate? I'm trying to explore bourbons but the ones I've tried are too sweet and spicy for me (Maker's Mark, Evan Williams)

Is Angel's Envy a good starting point? What else is good?

>> No.11998464

>>11994321
it's a basic nip whisky, it's light, a bit fruity, sweet-is, it doesn't have the usual characteristics that you can expect from scotch or bourbon like peat, vanilla, malted barley, rather it's lighter, it has less of a character so to speak
it's not a high quality whisky, imo it's not very good straight, with some water added or not, the one bottle I came across mostly ended up in old fashioned, I remember a friend had 5 of those in a night, they were really, really, really good
it may be worth it if you like that kinda whisky and you find a cheap enough bottle, here it's €35 per .5lit and I wouldn't pay more than that

I saw this on sale for $22 and picked a bottle up, had a dram that night and went back and bought a second bottle the next day.

Almost every maple or honey bourbon I've ever had has been cloying and more like a liqueur than a bourbon. Not this. This is a bourbon with maple in it. This is an excessively lovely after dinner dessert dram for fans of maple and/or bourbon. There's enough maple flavor to please non-bourbon drinkers and there's enough bourbon flavor to please bourbon drinkers.

Costco has handles of the regular Knob Creek rye, 100 proof, which I've had and loved, for thirty something.
They also have a 750 mL of the cask strength Knob Creek rye for like 40 something or 50 something.
Convince me not to just buy a 30 something dollar bottle handle of the 100 proof rye. Is the cask strength one really that much better?

great ~$20.00 bottle imofam
for me though, i try to stay away from the high proof bottles since i generally drink just as much and end up getting hammered
Pikesville is another very good, but expensive high proofe (110) rye and it may just be Rittenhouse aged an additional two years, at double the cost

a lot of these brands may come from the same source, but they often have a different taste, for whatever reason

i do have to say though that i think most of the Beam variants (Bookers, Bakers, Basil Hayden) seem to have the same aftertaste, which i don't really care for

>> No.12000998

Probably. Bulliet is a boring cocktail bourbon. I buy it for old fashions, because it's inoffensive and cheap. WR isn't the best bourbon for the price, but it's at least a decent sipper. If you can find a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel/Small Batch or Eagle Rare, they are both cheaper and better than WR.
