I want to lose some weight so I've been working out a few times a week. My formerly fat friends are telling me to do keto because it works. I'd really like to but I'm poor and can't afford to eat outside my college dining hall.

The dining hall has a pasta station, a pizza thing, chopped salads, a tex mex station, sushi, and a grill with average offerings. They also have a quick service hot bar that has vegetables in it...sometimes.

I'm not really creative when it comes to food yet. What can I eat here that works with the keto diet? Please be gentle I'm popping my thread virginity. Thank you /ck/

Let me preface this with yes, keto does work
That being said in order to do it without ruining your arteries with sat fats, you need to spend, it gets expensive. None of the foods you listed are keto viable either

honestly if you're already working out, just cut out sugar, soda especially. I legit lost 15lbs by limiting my sugar intake and I did it seated firmly on my ass.

If you aint doing physical part time work or something, just fast.

It doesn't have to be "extended fasts", necessarily, some variation of intermitted fasting could also work but please be a man and do at least 24 hours continuously. Don't be an hour-counting pussy, that's not an attitude that gives lasting results.

Some people complain about brainfog and dreaming about food all the time hindering studies and I'm one of them, but you have to try to know how much it affects you.

>None of the foods you listed are keto viable either
Nnonsense. The pasta out, there is surely something keto friendly in the salat bar. Tex mex? The meats are good. A grill? meat and many veggies are possible here.

Also, is there an option of canceling your meal plan and getting a refund back? I recall when I was in college it was a hell of a lot cheaper to buy prepared foods or get fast food than it was to eat in the dining hall. I don't mean cooking stuff that takes a lot of effort, I mean bare bones basic stuff. Surely keto friendly versions of that exist.

You could easily do Keto at school. Eggs & bacon, sausage, ham ect for breakfast. Lunch could be salad (Just watch the carbs in the dressing) with grilled chicken, hard boiled eggs, or any protein available. Dinner any combo of things from the grille, Tex mex, & veggies. Salad too. Get some almonds, pecans, & Polly-0 string cheese for your dorm room. I got through dorm living in college because I found a local butcher that sold prepared food. You got really good quality stuff for a decent price. Drink lots of water. I just lost 20 lbs in less than 6 weeks on Keto. Once you’ve been doing it for a few weeks you can even get by on 2 meals a day.

the thing about keto is if you legitimately adhere to its mealplan (and not be some atkins retard) you could forgo portion control and eat until you're full.
granted it still won't fix the underlying cause of them becoming disgusting lard beasts but it's one of the reasons why keto is popular among them.

Keto works, but in your circumstances I'd do one meal a day or alternate day fasting. Both get you into ketosis for weight loss, just not 24x7 ketosis. But you will lose weight, which is your goal, and you can stick with your meal plan.

That's only at the beginning until you actually enter ketosis. Afterwards you're supposed to raise the amount of carbs you eat by a bit which are primarily made up of veggies.

I have been on keto for 2 weeks. I am not fat (Started at 145lbs, at 141lbs currently) it's just that I am kinda skinny fat so I want to get lean and lift. My diet consists mainly of boiled eggs or omelettes with herbs and cheese, avocado, various types of fish (mainly salmon though), berries, pistachios, greek yogurt, celery and other low carb vegetables. I have a lot of spices and some super hot habanero sauce which is nice sometimes. I only drink water, black coffee and tea. This requires discipline but what I find is that I am not hungry much and have no desire to stuff myself with carbs. Don't get me wrong I look forward to things I have planned to eat when I am done but no longer do I eat because I'm stressed out. A lot of the processed crap actually makes me feel disgusted.

Try fasting

Easiest and fastest way to loose weight, and it saves you lots of money. Fast for 48 hours drinking about 1 liter of water every 24, eat around 1000 calories within a 2 hour window, repeat until you're not fat. If youre hearty you can go ahead and try for longer fasts but anywhere beyond 72 hours I recommend taking electrolyte supplements

Ketone strips are designed to catch diabetic ketoacidosis where the ketone levels get into the high teens and 20's, and that's all the manufacturers care about, they dont give a shit about accuracy, just that high ketone levels show up. They are laughably inaccurate at the ketone levels you get on a keto diet, their only virtue is they're cheap and readily available, and ketolarpers like you are too fucking ignorant to know better and keep touting them for checking ketone levels. You may as well claim you're in ketosis because your breath stinks, its roughly as accurate.
ketone sticks are a dead giveaway that you dont know shit about the keto diet and are just spouting shit from Cosmo or Teen.

It's a lot easier to eat less when you're consuming primarily fat, as it's very sating. A spoonful of peanut butter will curb my appetite in the morning. But if I go near any kind of pastry, cereal, whatever, I'm always left hungry afterward. Yell willpower all you want, the body is a machine.

This so much. I find that when I have less carbs in my meal and way more fat I can go days w/o eating afterwards. Just Wednesday I made a pork belly bulgogi and cooked in butter. Also, cooked the veggies in butter. Coupled that with nuts + cheese + dark chocolate it filled me up pretty good.

I also recommend seltzer water to help make you feel full, too, while fasting.
