The American breakfast builds on the English breakfast but adds hotcakes, a variety of styles of egg, and hash browns. I like black pudding but I see it as optional, it doesn't add that much.

I never had a diner near me growing up, but when I visited New York a few months ago I went to a lunch counter and they made a banging breakfast. I managed to eat my entire plate of pancakes which usually make me feel sick after half the stack. The sausages were the nicest I’ve ever had for breakfast too.
Also a severely underlooked American breakfast dish is hash. A nice corned beef or turkey hash from leftovers with a fried egg on top is a breakfast staple for me.
